Rear window tint on a 82
Has anyone ever used this?
I would like it darker so I'm guessing a tint shop could make it darker?
Or does anyone know a shop near Charlotte NC that will do rear tint on a 82? I hear a lot of shops wont touch a later C3........

I found a guy locally who did an excellent job tinting my rear window. He disliked doing it but took it on. He did it in about three hours. It keeps the heat (weather) and prying eyes away.
The part there on your link looks worth a try.

I didn't know those inserts were still being made. I knew a couple people that bought them years ago, and were pretty happy with them. One nice thing about them, is if you ever tire of the tint, it's a lot easier to remove the insert, then to strip that film off the glass.

I thought about that tint, but went with louvers instead.

I just wonder how much work that will be when you wash the car and water gets between it and the glass .

No problem at all. It goes on the inside of the rear window, not the outside. It's a thin, flexible, pre-molded piece of Lexan, that you pop into place, inside the rear window.

This product works great. I wedged it in and it looks like a tinted window from the outside. Took less than a minute and cost less than a real tint job. Mine is not dark enough for my taste but I'm sure you can get it tinted easy. I also have rear louvers so they may help hide any fitment issues.
My local tint shop refused to tackle my 79 rear window. I would go with a real tint job if possible but this product is a close second.

I had one of these plastic pop in tint things in the 80's with my 81, I found it hard-ish to install crappy to remove mine creaked and it wasn't at all dark like I desired, I wouldn't one for free....okay the one I had was free.
Even in the 80's tinters hated the 78-82 rear glass, a very talented tinter I knew told me it was because it took a long time to do as time is money with a tinters profit is in speed and how many jobs they can do, and the fact that unless an 82 CE the tinter had to spelunk into the rear and do a 16th chapel idea on their back, on a double curved surface.
After hitting several shops and either being flat turned down or quoted a price that was in the 100's I found a cat, A Jamaican dude, irie mon, he was like 6 foot 7 and 100 pounds wet and crawled in there seats down and his helped handed him stuff and helped hold it, charged me like 50 and it was that black almost cant see through it stuff,
And I had cragar louvers over that.
So now all these years later I would call around and call some more and find someone who is old enough and talented enough to have done at least one before

When we first got out '81 we didn't even realize that it was anything but tinted windows until one of my daughters was wrenching in the back on something and pointed it out. We took it out, which took a little work as it's hard to catch an edge, because I'm not a fan to darker tinting in the rear because I drive at dusk a lot of the time.
