I have those same wheels and very much regret letting the tire shop guy talk me into 17x7's for the front. The backspacing was just enough different that they sit in too far and look funny. Make sure you get the 17x8's for the front and back with the same backspacing as original.

Cragars are heavy, and the chrome can't wait to flake off. Other than that, they're ok.

Everyone will have their own personal preference.
For you to identify your own personal preference, start a thread requesting pics of Corvettes with aftermarket tire/wheel combinations.
Many choices to pick from, don't limit yourself.

Not many tire sizes to pick from in 16" (17" are starting to go away as well).

Stock ralleys, chromed, with baby moons (sort of). Strictly personal choice. I've liked chrome reverse rims since in my teens (back in mid fiftles). As you can tell by the flames, I like old school. BTW, tires are 255/60/15 rear, 245/60/15 front. Have a great week, Bill.

Thrust D's are a wonderful looking wheel, they made them in different finishes and some had flatter spokes,
Then the sad fact that wide 15's tires are basically gone 295-50-15 is about it, I really hate this because I am an old school person I really wanted to run classic 15" wheels but depending on what the 295's do for me in person I might have to go modern larger diameter,
I did a lot of homework and it appears that 16's will die like 15's 18's are going to be here to stay a while but then I have to run something of a rubber band tire, the other thing is I want a deep dish in the rear, old school look again, I do not care for that modern positive offset on classic c3's,
Lucky most modern wheels can be ordered in whatever backspace a person desires,
You asked about Cragars vs Thrust D's for me an aluminum wheel will win out over chrome plated steel every time, the very sad thing about cragars because the SS is such an old school hot rod wheel is they rust, I would have bought the wire cragars if I ever saw a set that didn't rust at the spokes....
There are several big threads showing all kinds of wheels on c3's go and see what you really like then it's just up to your budget when you can jump on them...

Wheels size is just part of the equation. You want a 27" tire or at least close to that size.

I went with 255/45-18 because you have many options in tire manufactures.

Wheels for Less has a American Racing two piece custom page where you can order the correct offsets.
