Default Hood Wars: Stinger vs L88 on a 80 Corvette

Searching for a new hood and I'm down to these two. Engine clearance is not a issue. Just going for looks. I'm at 50/50 and like both. Based only on looks which do you think would look better on a 80 corvette?

I would be torn too, I owned 2 81's and dig the 80-82 cars,
the L-88 hood or scoop has to be about the most popular scoop of all time seen on things ranging from trucks to golf carts,
the 67 big block scoop used on the stinger hood has a timeless classic look to me,
I believe that if I wanted to be different and set my 80-82 car apart I would put the 67 stinger scoop on the 80 hood over it's stock bulge, it would retain a 80-82 look yet be all custom...but that's me, what do YOU want for YOUR car?

Nothing says badazz on a C3 like the L88, I intend to do it to mine...someday.

Love both but the L88 looks way better on a C3. Fits a shark body line much better than the stinger. Just my 2 cents!

The stinger hood clashes with the lines of a C3, it just doesn't look right.

Like the Stinger. L88 to me looks like a hood tumor. It's a bit too much.

got to be the L88 the stinger is reserve for the C2 and imho only belongs on the C2

I think your stock hood looks better than either of your choices.

To my eye, stingers only look right on a C2, and I've never been accused of being any sort of purist.

Neither. Keep the OEM '80 hood. Don't get me wrong - I like both the stinger and the L88 hood - just not on a '80. Keep it original. JMHO

I totally agree with this.
But i know this doesn`t help the TO...
I think from both them it cannot be said this one or that one fits a 80/82 better than the other.

I have seen too much L-88 hoods in life and never was a fan, as for my own taste it is too "bulky" for a C3. But, like always, that is personal taste again...

The Stinger i would rather feel on a 74-77, maybe on a chromey, but not on the modern faced 80 body.
But if you love it that way, i say go for it.
There is too much opinions around, don`t care about....

Right now i modify a 82, already had a Turbo hood for it sitting around, but meanwhile had totally different ideas and skipped that one.

The shop found a used 81 hood for me as i wanted that one, i think with all the side cost and everything not much cheaper than some aftermarket solution, but i really wanted the 80/82 hood.

All the low profile hoods like the LT-1, the very early 68 low profile hood, and then the 80 hood, are my favourites, i feel the C3`s proportions really shine with that ones.
Add a bulky scoop and a lot of the elegance is gone.

Although i now modify that 81 hood, because of the engine`s intake and out of a custom idea, i still love the 80 hood, it even shines on a chromey.

Would i still have a 80-body-Vette and really wanted to play with another hood, i would do the Turbo hood. I like the one-duct-design most.

On my previous 81 i tried to have a L-88 scoop grafted in so that it`s front portion flows into the stock 80 hood design.
I liked it better than the Standard L-88, but still too big for my taste.
It was because of the bigger intake and i always heard positive comments about it, but i really liked it with the stock low profile 81 hood way better.

Here`s some pictures of it

on a side note, i think my Turbo hood is still available if you are interested.

I personally don't prefer the stinger on a c3, but that does not matter since it's not my car. I had several situations like this where I was 50/50 on a decision. If all other things were equal, I chose the cheaper route.

I like the Cowl Hood on the rubber bumper C3's as well. It's subtle and unlike the Stinger, doesn't take away from the lines of the car. Agree with the others, the Stinger is a C2 only hood. Looked good on those short, stocky cars, but it's overkill on a long sleek body, like the C3, it becomes a distraction and it catches your eye in a negative way, because it clashes with the lines of the C3. The L88 is an OK choice, but most 'car guys', know that the L88 was an early C3 hipo look and trying too hard to bring your '80 to back in the day and nostalgia doesn't work for me, personally (IMHO).

I was always going to put a stinger hood on my 80 but they are a bit flat on the front corners which makes them appear a bit upturned in contrast to the guards. There is a neat looking alternative in this post ( the grey one ) https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c3-general/3585675-c3-hood-scoops.html
