Classic car insurance
I have a car(72 convertible) arriving tomorrow on a carrier.
I filled out a quote online 2 days ago at Grundy. They sent an email back that says "call to make payment" OR print the out the following and put it in the mail with a check. (I dont understand why you cant pay online)
I called to make a payment, and they give me a list of things to do.
1. Print out the application they emailed me and mail it in
(seems repetitive since I already gave the information online)
2. Send a copy of Title (never had this requested before for insurance)
3. Send 2-3 photos (who prints photos anymore)
I thought this seems kind of crazy after I hung up. I want insurance in the next 2 weeks!
I called back and asked if any of this can be submitted through email.
They said yes. They then review it for 1-2 days and let you know if you are approved.
I fail to see why they gave me a quote in the first place after I gave them all my info and any driving history if they still dont know if they want to cover me, or why they put the current day as the default for beginning coverage if you have to jump through all these hoops still. I wanted the day to be 3 days in the future and thought I was giving myself plenty of time.
I figured I was just calling to make a payment.
I told the lady after she interrupted every 5 words, that Im just trying to give her some feedback that they should put some of this stuff in the email that they sent, and that this process sounds like something that would take place in 1981, because they want everything sent in the mail.
Is there another company that is less hassle and more with the times? Im willing to pay more, and give business to someone who has adapted with the times.

The other thing I was wondering is, are these people going to be a hassle in the event that you ever have an incident...
The only auto insurance I've had has been with Geico and they have been amazing. They don't do collector cars that I'm aware of

I was able to insure mine through my normal insurance company Grange. I too had to send them pictures, and a copy of my title. From other quotes I have seen online Grange appears to be in the ball park. I just renewed my 6 month policy and it was only $120 for 6 months of full coverage. The insurance agent I go through also deals with Hagerty so I could have gone with them for about the same amount. I have never had any problems when I had to make a claim with Grange so I just went with them.

I originally had Grundy for my LT-1. My agent quit them because even she was tired of the hassles. She looked around for a company she felt good about recommending to her clients. I am now with her recommendation, Condon-Skelly. $345/year with $48k agreed value. They have never asked me about my annual mileage.

I go along with Hagerty. Fortunately, I have not had to use my insurance but I have only heard good things about their coverage from a number of reliable sources. Good luck.

Another Hagerty customer here. $252 per year covers BOTH Pontiacs...(250 minimum for the first car, second car add-on for 2 bucks!)

if you pay right away ( credit card) then they will insure you right away.. They may reject your application days later, but they will let you know in a reasonable amount of time. then refund your money.
There is really only few reasons for rejecting the App. The app is incorrect or the customer lied on the app, or refuses to provide the doc requested.
if you are just cold calling companys, then ask to see the policy before paying.. read it and make sure you are covered the way you want to be covered.

in order to get my classic motorcycle insured, I had to send them a picture of the bike with a shoe on the seat... which would be proof of it being a new picture and not an old picture.
different companies have different requirements.

Hagerty turned me down because my wife and I have a couple of glass claims. In Florida if you have full coverage and your window breaks, they have to replace it. Rocks on a busy road by the port in Tampa are deadly! My normal company is Geico.

When I finally got a garage, I applied to Haggerty and was insured that day. That was about 2 years ago. Approx 280/year with 100 mile towing, $500,000 liability, full comp/collision, 0 deductible. Already had it towed once (short trip) and 1 "accident" (was my fault, in my garage, and too embarrassed to talk about it) to the tune of about $4500. Not a problem. Paid in full. Figger I'm morally locked into them for a while. Have a wonnerful week, Bill
