Default Seat latch

The little chrome seat release button came off from the back of my seat. Is it a big job getting it back in, does the back of the seat have to come a part. Any of you guys know how to do it....

Hi n2m,
It's a surprisingly involved job to replace the button.
The reason is the screws enter the button from it's rear side.
In order to gain access the hard plastic seat back needs to be removed. Then the rear of the seat cover needs to be opened all the way up, to just above the button location, so the steel release mechanism can be moved enough to gain access to the back of it for the screws to be installed into the button.
Do you have the AIM for your car? It'll give you an idea of what needs to be done. In the 71 AIM it's UPC 1 (Seats), Sheet J5.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

If your thinking of replacing the covers, now's the time.
