My grilles are weird on our 79

The grilles on our car look wrong. In the center of the nose they look like they fit flush, but as they go out from the center, they recess into the nose leaving a good size gap. Now when they are screwed in tight, that is how they sit. The brackets don't look like they've moved or been moved at all but something doesn't look right. Can someone enlighten me as to how they are supposed to sit correctly? And possibly as to why these are the way they are. It does not appear underneath to have any damage, nothing looks bent, BUT the nose has been replaced, as it is fiberglass.
This when I unscrew it and pull it forward. This is what I think they are supposed to look like.

My right side grill was similar... the outer bracket was bent backward about 1/2" at some point, took it loose, bent it back forward, screwed everything back together... all is good now.

My 76 was like that on both sides too! I replaced the nose w/a glass one in which you mount the grills to the nose. You can loose the mounts behind w/this method.

Orangebrothers, even the drivers side?
They both are set back a bit, the one that is flush I unscrewed and just pulled it forward, it's just resting there.
