Default So tomorrow I start the longest cruise of my 79's know history!

That's right. As far as I can tell, this car has not been driven for more than 1-200 miles at a time. Tomorrow, I start a roughly 800 mile, 2 day trip, from Buffalo NY, to NJ, to DC, and finally to Jacksonville NC! I am excited and nervous at the same time. Put alot of work into the car to hope she is ready, but with a 35 year old car, you just never know! Bright and early, I will start to eat up the miles! Wish me luck!

Awesome! Of course, I know that you're gonna bring a couple of tools, duct tape, wire and a lucky rabbits foot, right?

Take some pics too!

I plan to take lots of pics. When I get to NJ, I will try to talk my brother into the unleashing his '46 pickup (needs alot of work) for a few pics, as these two vehicles, having both been owned by our dad, were never photographed together. Then get some pics at the beach in NC.

im affraid to drive my 79 out of the county i live in, LOL. now that ive repaired everything that left me stranded im scared to go anywhere. i broke my automatic trans on the highway but i was being abusive with it. the rear wheel bearing went out on a road trip and that was totally unexpected. bring an extra ignition module with you, they can go at any time also. have a fun trip.

Jersey Shore? Expect heavy traffic on the GSP due to construction and Lane shift changes from Brick to Toms River - combine that with this being the heaviest season for traffic flow - weekend beach goers. Good luck and post pictures of your ride!

Looking forward to your updates.

May the Corvette gods smile upon your trip. Did you remember to sacrifice a chicken over the car before you left?

Sorry for such a late update. Made to to NJ with no issues. Put over 500 miles on the car on this leg alone! I ended up going a half hour past my brothers house to his wife parents house for dinner, then drive back. Car performed flawlessly! Started out doing 55-60, with no issues, by the end up the trip, I was rolling along 65-70, no issues, and with a TH350 trans, that means at or above 3000rpm. ZERO traffic except around Philly. While rolling, the thermostat never went over 160. Got up to 180 sitting in traffic. Outside temp was about 78 degrees when it reached that. At one point in PA, came across a guy and his wife in a Viper, two big thumbs up, and we did a lil sprint from 65 til I let off at about 100. I got the jump, and even though I am pretty sure his car was an auto trans, he couldn't gain on me past my rear fender. That was fun and stretched my legs a little. I couldn't resist!

Only flaw is that one of the new belts I put on started squealing as I passed into NJ. I think it just stretched out a bit and I need to tighten it. Will take a look in the morning, and hopefully it just needs a quick adjustment. Overall, the car has performed better than expected. I am even averaging 17.5 miles per gallon.

I only took a couple of pics. I really only stopped for gas and quick bathroom breaks. I will post them up when I get more time.

The only draw back, is that in 500 miles, I only saw 4 other Vettes. And only got 2 waves from them. Though I also got a biker shouting "nice car" at 70 MPH, and lots of waves from other classics.

Tomorrow, it's off to Waldorf, MD, near DC, for lunch with a good friend, then off to NC!
