The Wave
Something I thought only happened when riding motorcycles or out on a boat and people in small towns is that other corvette owners wave at you! I have only owned this car since February and this was a nice thing to find out.

I always wave at: any Corvette, older collector-type cars, any kid or adult that waves at me. Most of the C5 and newer Vettes do not wave back (unlike me I don't think they keep their eyes peeled for other Vettes), but I wave anyways...

If you have a free weekend, search "the wave" in the Forum archives and get a comfortable seat.

Back in 2005 when I had my '79 and the '68 was being worked on, I found many of the C5s and C6s to be driven by women who had no idea of the wave. When men were driving, many of them seemed perplexed, too.
The wave goes WAYYYYY back. And equally far back is someone bemoaning that the wave is dying and that the others won't wave to me.

While on my cruise Sunday I got several waves from motorcyclist and other classic cars that I passed (quite a few other classics on the road) and only saw two other vettes a 70 and a c5 whom both waved. Of course Texas is a friendly state.

Just like when I ride a motorcycle, I wave. If they don't wave back I don't let it bother me. They most likely didn't see me, or were occupied in the cockpit.

I give the wave to all vettes I see, whether they wave or not doesnt bother me. I see it as a bond to our cars.
I also give a wave to older classic cars, muscle cars and hot rods. Just to let them know I acknowledge them, and their great cars.

My wife thought it was just me...then she started paying attention...
I wave at all Corvettes, classic cars, and hot rods while I am driving my Vette.
When I ride my Harley, I wave at all motorcycles, to include scooters and trikes regardless of the brand or style. I don't take it personally when people don't wave back because I've missed my share of waves because I was concentrating on all the drivers that were trying to kill me.
If I see you, I will wave.

Melting Slicks
I heard one time that "the wave" started when cowboys would pass on the trail, they would show a hand to let the other know they meant no harm.
Could be BS, but it sounds
All the late-model 'vettes wave around here, too.

Deep down, we're all gearheads and that can't be a bad thing. Prius owners would rarely understand; they are not a part of this brother and sisterhood.
Save the Wave.

When I first started buying Corvettes in the 70s, "Save the Wave" was a big deal and Corvette owners simply never missed exchanging a wave. Lots of Save the Wave T shirts, etc. But the entire purpose was the Corvette Brotherhood... we would never consider waving to other makes of cars. That would defeat the purpose of the connection to other Corvetters.
I talk to other car people in traffic, but I wouldn't wave at them.

If I see a cool old car pass me by you can bet I'll wave at them. Here in North Texas it's not unusual to see a handful of classic beauties on the road during my weekend drive about. I feel a closer connection to a '65 Mustang than a 2014 Vette. If that makes me a lesser Vette owner then so be it.
My DD is a C6 and I find myself having to force a wave when I'm commuting home each day. After a long day at work I don't necessarily feel too sociable to be honest. On the weekends however in my '82 I more than make up for it by waving at Vettes and any old classic I see on the road. If a Vette owner does not return the wave I figure they have their reasons and promptly forget about it.
Save the wave or Share the wave... Call it what you will. If it makes you happy then do it with a passion.

Got a wave from a guy in a Corvair a few days ago. I waved back.
Get a lot of waves from Harley riders. Guess it's the Made In America thing. I wave back.
I always wave
