Zz 427
Repowering time has come. Can I hear any comments about the gm 427/480hp . on researching i find conflicting statements on the cam specs and the horsepower output if you compare the Zl1 it uses the same components other than the block it only claims 430hp and somehow they tweeked the dyno chart to show it. what gives? Aluminum block is only a weight savings .Compare Summit to Jegs you will see the specs are different but the part no,s are the same Thanks.

The zz427 is a good engine, but you're paying for the 427 name plate. The zz454 and zz502 are much better deals

I think it was Car Craft that had an article on the ZZ454. After a couple break in runs on the Dyno with the recommended 4 degrees initial timing they increased the initial and brought the total advance up to 36 degrees. A bit bigger carb, can't remember what size, and they made 500-505 hp. Not too shabby.

A ZZ502 is the way to go, I would have the zl1, but I can't justify the cost next to the zz502, you can go on my youtube channel and see and hear my car, (LeMans Blue). You do need to change the oil pan, and I think the newer zz502's have a mech. Fuel boss. You can use regular pump gas with all the power you could ever use, unless you are racing. PM me if you want more info. Are you going to be racing or just daily driving and showing?
