I'm looking for the part number for an original starter solenoid on my starter (1108400). I know it's a Delco but not sure if they were stamped.

I just want to make sure I get the correct one.

Also, if anyone has a picture of their starter with the heat shielding installed that would be great. Mine is missing the shielding and when I change out my current starter I want to install the shielding.

Rock Auto usually will carry the OEM Parts or replacements and these are the part numbers that come up for that starter. While it may not be the exact part number it is the correct part for your starter motor.

5 with the little jumper hose, and cut off hoses to the headlights.

Hi 63,
The parts book I have indicates about six different part numbers for the solenoid used with the 400 starter.
I'm not sure that the solenoid is marked in any way.
Perhaps there are some variations in configuration that would indicate it was the proper one for use on your car?

On my '71's I have one of each.

Mine (feb 71) has a 3 nozzle on it but not sure if it was original that way. I changed my wiper pump out with an original one and used a 3 nozzle again since it had one on it when I got it.

I do have 2 washer holes on the drivers side that go to the head lights. They were cut off, not sure if they were cut from the factory or not..

My March car has the 5 port washer pump, the April car has a 3 port pump.

Here's the jumper hose followed by the cut wires, right before the black tape.

I would expect your car to have the five port. Warrens cars were right at the change.

I think your right, I'm going to have to switch it out for a 5 port nozzle.

I wonder why they just used a jumper?

I'm guess with six different part numbers, it explains why there is so much variation to the information I found.

It's always about the money. They were saving by eliminating everything from the pump forward to the headlight washers. My guess there could have been a lot of service related issues, but just conjecture.

My GM parts book shows just one solenoid used for just about every C3 made. GM # 1114458 Delco # D981.

Let's say this, just because something isn't written in the JM does not mean it won't be judged! Each judge carries his or her own knowledge and use it to their abilities while judging!

Hi,
I think WB's point is well taken.
For this reason it's helpful to see the judging sheets for a car being touted as a Flight Award winner so a person can see WHEN the award was earned, (Judging detail has grown as the years have gone by), and who the judges were.
It's often emphasized WHERE the award was earned. I think that may have been more important in the past than it is now. I believe what matters is the LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE of the judges. There are now OFTEN judges with extensive experience even at Chapter level meets.
The First Edition Manual (1989) was 26 pages; the current 4th Edition (2006) is 112 pages. The knowledge judges have mastered (pun!), and are using in judging, has grown just as much.

I completely agree. That's why when I am shopping around for a part I try and find the correct part to replace. Even if I never have my car judged I want the correct original part. I'm sure there will come the day that I will have the car judged and it sounds right if I spend the time now to find the correct parts. I like not having the pressure of find the correct part right now. I have all the time to find them.

In the end if the judge doesn't look at the part I really don't care but if he did and it wasn't correct. I would kick myself for not taking my time.
