AND she was escorted to the prom by a 454…Your son has to be happy weather she gets back in or not!
Really is a great pic of them. Congrats to you for having the ability to share such a cool car with your son at such a cool time in his life.
And the vette passion shall continue on.

Just to put everyone's mind at ease..... I got the text about a half hour ago that it's home and tucked safely in the garage. They are headed to after prom parties in his car.

Now that it is over, here is a downer thought for you.
What kind of insurance did you have on it?
Most collector insurance doesn't cover anyone under 25 or with less than 10 years driving experience.
The insurance issue is really counter-productive to the health of this hobby. How can you get young people to enjoy these cars if they cannot drive them until they are 25? By then, they are well established in the import world and have no desire to switch.

However, what makes 25 the magical age for insurance companies to give the okay? Statistical averages, maybe?
Either way, I would still let my son drive the car in this situation, so long as my son loved the car as much as me. This would be the only way I'd be confident enough that he'd be careful with it. The rest of the surrounding world is another story.

That's one way of looking at it. The other way would be to say that they have 25 years to salivate over it while it sits in the garage and devilishly grins at them. Also, I think the car bug is a deeply seeded passion that takes a lot to go from loving something like a classic corvette to an import.

They grew up around mine, my brother having a string of Camaros (several '69), their father having a '64 Chevelle convertible and later a '69 Camaro.
The one in the black Corvette jacket is a 33 year old mechanical engineer and instead of getting a Corvette like he always dreamed of when little, recently bought a Mazda, after having Celicas for the last 15 years. The other one has gone through an assortment of small sedans, like Neons and Corollas. They still like my Camaro and my corvette, but they don't want one, because they couldn't have one and they moved on to things they could have.

Huh, well I stand corrected in this instance. As for myself, I was one of those that grew up with a vette in the garage and couldn't wait until I could see over the dash and hood. I wouldn't touch an import, just not my thing. Guess we can't save them all.

But I did purposely not insure it with a "collector car" insurance company so that he could drive it to prom. That said, I will most likely change that now that prom is over. I don't like being told when and where and how much I can drive my car. It is a second car for me and I have a brand new Toyota truck as my primary vehicle. I really wish I could find an "agreed value" policy for it that let me drive it like any other car I have.... to work, to the store, just out messing around... etc. and not cost an arm and a leg.
