Default DeWitts adds custom rubber cushions

We continue to listen to your feedback and it guides us to improve the installation experience and our product. Over the years we have had a few people complain about the fit of the factory rubber cushions on our radiators. As a result, we are now including two (2) custom rubber cushions that fit into the upper factory metal brackets and wrap around our core. We will start to include these with all C3 radiators immediately.

I do not yet. I just got them in today and took those pics with my cell phone. I will have it all set up next week and you can call in to Christyn.

To all, be forewarned, these cushions are just as hard to get into the metal brackets as the stock ones. You really have to work them into the metal U brackets and get them to seat right before attempting to put them over the radiator.

They will but the problem we are addressing is a loose fit on top.

In some ways. Many vendors will use USPS flat rate packaging and in this case a flat rate padded envelope would likely work and that is $5.95. Sometimes all you have to do is ask. I will likely call and see.

Tom, great products! I had a friend with a 67 small block in Illinois and he was so misinformed about his radiator choices. I said look, buy the Dewitt's already and stop being foolish. He had called on a Friday afternoon, left a message, and you returned the call. I don't know what impressed him more. The quality of the radiator that was dated stamped and epoxied or, that the owner called him back. Thanks for making me look good.

The cushion was molded directly from the U brackets used on 66-76 models. 1977-82 brackets are slightly different because of the second tier bracket on top but the inside radius of the U bracket is the same.

Not everyone felt there was a need for these. Only a few people ever mentioned the upper brackets not fitting or the radiator being too loose. If your radiator is snug, then I wouldn't worry about fixing it. However, I decided to send these out to anyone that bought a radiator in 2014 for free if you feel you must have them.

While we are talking radiators would you comment on this article?
http://www.aa1car.com/library/coolin..._corrosion.htm
Should we be grounding these radiators better?

I don't think that is absolutely necessary but more of a bandage to a bigger problem. If you read that article, he talks more about the coolant being egnored and the inhibitor package dying off and/or poor electrical system grounding, then the electrolysis begins.

I don't know why we do not change coolant like we do motor oil but we don't. One reason might be how spoiled we became with copper material. You could do just about anything to a copper radiator, let it sit for ten years and even if it plugged up solid you might have the core rotted out and all is forgiven.

I took my 2008 GM silverado in for service the other day. The dealer had a little device with glass tubes filled with fluids and they compared my fluid with the test vials. They said your coolant looks good because it is still green color and I bought that, for a minute. Then I asked the guy how long GM Dexcool was good for and he said five years and the inhibitor would die out. We both looked at each other until we both came up with six year old coolant! Color should never be used to determine effectiveness of the inhibitor package. I always joke with people that I have some white milk in my frig, want some?

Aluminum is a sensitive material, the one draw back to it working so well. Bad water is even a bigger problem than expiration dates. Most people just do not believe that mineral free water is an absolute must and not just a suggestion. They will buy a quality five year coolant and mix it with city tap water, not having a clue what's in there.

The solution to this water problem is pretty simple, do not purchase the concentrated coolant. Buy the coolant in a pre-mixed form to eliminate the possibility of any errors. Pre-mixed coolant already contain the distilled water and the proper ratio to make filling your cooling system simple. You no longer have to pre-mix the coolant or guess at what water ratio you have. Just pour it in and forget it. I recommend getting a five year coolant and replacing it every three years to be safe. The reason coolants have a term on life is because that is how long the inhibitor package will last. Remember this, it has nothing to do with the color of the coolant when determining the condition of the inhibitor package. When the inhibitor package decays you no longer are protected from minerals eating the aluminum.
