What Engine??
I inherited this vette form my dad he owned it for 40 years and has moved to Fl (no room). The engine is not original to the car and the Cast number is partially unreadable. The Engine Stamp is clear. Could someone tell me what Big Block this is. I posted the pictures of the 2 numbers:
Engine Stamp is: T1202CPH
Partial Engine VIN is: C11S103864
Cast number: 3 x y 3512
the x looks like either an 8 or 9 and the y looks like a 6, 8 or 9 so the numbers would be:
3863512
3883512
3893512
3963512
3983512
3993512
I can only find one valid Big Block cast number: 3963512 - which makes this a 4 bolt COPO 454 engine.

Nice looking pad. Looks like you have a 71 LS5, and if the VIN ends in 3864, it still has it's original engine.
Not sure where you are getting COPO, but I believe all 454's made in 70, and 71 where 3963512 blocks.

3963512 was also on late 427 COPA or L88. Aluminum or cast Iron heads, look on the castings on the head ending 163, 074, 063 we might be able to figure it out. I hope this helps. And if I am wrong please correct me. Good luck and keep us posted.

People keep coming up with the COPO label with this casting number, no idea why.

T Tonawanda 1202 December 2nd CPH LS5 with 4 speed
Your 71 must be assembled after December 2, 1970. Time/build code is in the upper right corner of the trim tag.
VIN derivitive for 1971 Corvette #3864; probably assembled about the middle of December, 1970.
If your VIN ends with 103864, you have the original engine for your car.

Thanks
Thanks to all,
The Engine number and VIN make perfect sense, just can't resolve the Block number that doesn't correspond to any of the list. Since it was so late in the year, assuming that they used this V8 block as base for the LS-5 and that it is not a 4 bolt COPO.
Thanks for all the help,

Your block is 3963512, just like every other BBC Corvette car that year.

Your engine was assembled in December, 1970. Granted December is the last calendar month of the year, it is not the last production month for the 1971 model year run. 1971 production began in August 1970 and ended in July 1971. That puts December a little less than half way through the production run.
