Default water pump

I am in need of a water pump. Is their a difference between a 68-69 year and a 74? I am looking at a chrome one for a SBC. Thanks

They are basically the same application...If I recall some need fittings usually supplied if necessary that extends the application years...the new ones for the better part have dual mounting holes for the clutch fans and bushings for the pump shaft...again if necessary

Use the following pictures for the dimensions needed in a SB application for our C3's:

This what non-Corvette SB applications use most:

Hope that 'splains the differences between the two.

Good luck.

Chevrolet changed their water pumps in 1970.

Early pumps had a 5/8" shaft, and a 1 3/4" bolt circle. From 70 on, the pump shaft was 3/4" and the fan bolt circle was enlarged to 2 1/8".

Most aftermarket pumps, have 2 sets of bolt holes, to accommodate both the early and late bolt pattern clutch and fans. If your buying a pump listed for pre-1970, make sure that it has the dual bolt pattern, or you'll likely be replacing your fan and clutch, too.
