Default A/C Fan speed not so good

I've spent all day repairing the A/C on our latest Corvette acquisition: 1978 Silver Anniversary Edition. After getting it converted to R134 and running everything I've found that the air doesn't blow particularly strong on this car. I haven't compared it against my 74 as it's still in the project phase. It's nowhere near the same air velocity as the 84 vette. Is this pretty normal? All fan speeds work, the A/C housing is clean as is the evaporator core. Is there a reasonably easy solution?

Thanks - it's getting really warm down here!

Yes. 84 and up use a more efficient fan which flows more air through the system. You can install the 84 and up fan on your C3 blower motor. You'll need a spacer since the 84 fan is bigger.

There are several threads on the upgrade Easy Mike speaks of.

I read another thread about upgrading the ground from the blower motor. I went with a larger gauge wire and a different ground point. It helped quite a bit with the fan speed.

Make sure you don't have a mouse nest in the fan area, mine was full and they had chewed a couple holes in the blades.

Get a c4 plower fan. I did and I was surprised at how easy it was to change out. The fan on a c4 is 1" larger than the c3. Disconnect the battery. Get a piece of 3/4' plywood. Mark the holes from the motor. Then cut out a hole so the fan cage will pass through. replace the screws with 1-1/2" reconnect the hot wire and ground. And enjoy the wind blowing in your hair.

before you change the fan .I would check the duct work.the fan upgrade is good but may not be needed.
