Question on fender key activated alarm
Was the alarm system on the 76 and 77 corvettes a standard item or was it an optional item? I've heard both opinions. Thanks for any info.

The alarm was made standard, in 1971. All Corvettes built since 1971, have come with some sort of factory installed alarm system.

The alarm was optional on 68-70 Corvettes. Starting in 71, it became part of the car's standard equipment. On 68-73 Corvettes, the alarm switch was located in the center of the taillamp panel, above the CORVETTE letters.
When the flexible rear bumper was added in 74, the alarm switch was moved to the left front fender. It remained in the left fender, until part way through the 77 model year, when it was incorporated into the driver's door lock. All 78-82 Corvettes had the alarm switch as part of the driver's side door lock.
On 77-80 Corvettes, the alarm is armed and disarmed by using the key in the driver's side door lock. On 81-82's, the alarm is disarmed with the key in the driver's door lock, but armed by locking the doors with the power lock switch (on cars with PL's), or when locking the doors with the lock button, on cars without power locks.
