CoWorker Says Corvette's Are Not True Muscle Cars
The subject came up today when my Mustang loving Co Worker saw a photo of the new 2015 Corvette Z06 on my computer screen. He said he wasn't impressed because Corvette's were not true muscle cars because they weren't four seaters . I told him he was basically full of it. I really need a good comeback for this one after he emailed me this.
Muscle car is a term used to refer to a variety of high-performance automobiles.[1] The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines muscle cars as "any of a group of American-made 2-door sports coupes with powerful engines designed for high-performance driving."[2] A large V8 engine is fitted in a 2-door, rear wheel drive, family-style mid-size or full-size car designed for FOUR or more passengers. Sold at an affordable price, muscle cars are intended for mainly street use and occasional drag racing.[3][4][5][6] They are distinct from two-seat sports cars and expensive 2+2 GTs intended for high-speed touring and road racing.
You can look it up yourself, but you should know not to question me on muscle cars!!

A Corvette is a sports car , not a Muscle car .. Owners of Muscle cars or ya know the guys who think they own a muscle car all say this one defining statement .
" My car can beat a Vette "
The basis for that is , Corvette was the first standard production performance / sport coup , it gave rise to the Muscle car .. And those who went Muscle car almost always where the guys who could not afford to just go buy a Corvette.
Anyway thats is how I see it I could be wrong I bet some t-bird guys will argue it differently but a t-bird ended up being a Muscle car not a sports car ..

I'd tell him to go away (it doesn't deserve a response).
There's enough ignorant people at car shows, and then to have to deal with them at work to?..life's too short.

Food for thought.
Mustang has been trying to catch up to Corvette since the A.C. Cobra left the scene.....not going to happen.

Oh brother really?!?!?!? some fellow who can't afford a vette wants try to bring you down by saying "vettes arent muscle cars" Sorry I don't think they are either, they are sports cars...and what is wrong with that?
I like where someone posted that these fellows will spew "my car can beat a vette", cool...the vette has the stigma of being the bad ***, the mark to meet the car that must be beat to earn your cool points...never have I heard some dolt say my car can beat a 'stang, a cuda, a whatever....nope...because the vette above all is the zenith.
Don't let it get to you because your co worker is jealous and intimidated by corvettes.....

My 5000 lbs Pontiac GP had more muscle than most cars...by a fair margin too.....
but that was then, ~40 years ago....today, my vette would eat it alive, but then again, nothing has ever been stock in my entire car owning history.....
not nuttin, not from wheels through roof.....nothing,

Wasn’t any Muscle Car built in the USA other than a Corvette simply a compromise? Taking away certain racing categories (NASCAR, AHRA, and NHRA) the reason “muscle cars” even existed was to provide an alternative to enthusiasts who couldn’t afford a Corvette. Fear of sounding arrogant – and just saying – Corvette is the original and only Sports Car ever built in America …

Hi,
I traded a 68 GTO on my 71 coupe and thought I was moving from a muscle car to a Corvette. Corvettes were in a class of their own.
Regards,
Alan

The definition of a "Muscle Car" is a [generally] mid-sized car with an oversized motor dropped in it. Examples: Pontiac GTO with a 389 engine; Chevy Chevelle with a 396 (or larger) engine; Chevy Nova with a hi-output V8 stuffed in there.
There are also "Pony" cars, like the Mustangs, which are potent machines, but don't exactly fit the Muscle Car mold.
Corvettes always were (or, wanted to be, in the early years...and the later years) Sports Cars.
