Default Who has spent $30K or more on your $20K car

I guess its the path traveled huh. But as you go and you add up the money you realise you have spent way more on your car than its worth. I did, but I love the results.
How about you?

I think my car is worth about $25K. I got $50K (including the purchase) into it, I imagine. Mostly original 1968 L36 Roadster, originally Cordovan Maroon now black. I think the only option is AM/FM Stereo. It needs finishing; I am about to give it to my brother-in-law because he is so detail orientated. No stopping him.

I try not to add up what I've spent. Why would I want to make myself feel bad?

It's soooo easy to get upside down in a car and soooo fast it can happen. Rare is the person who can do so and turn a profit but if you're doing it for the love of he car and intend to keep it...have at it. It's your money and you won't hear criticism from me about it.

But...if you feel like all the money invested should be returned in resale, then don't expect me to bail you out of what you spent too much on. Not my job!

Guilty as charged, but I really don't care.
Like Roughrider said "doing it for the love of the car and intend to keep it...have at it. It's your money and you won't hear criticism from me about it."
Can't wait to the snow is gone so I can enjoy it.
Had the Motor, Tranny, Clutch, Power steering rebuilt as well as new DeWitts Radiator, engine and A/C harness and added Power brakes..

My response goes like this. Yes, absolutely have spent more than I can sell it. No.1 - I have no plans to ever sell it, so the sale price is meaningless. Secondly, I will spend way less money than I could have on buying a NEW C7 Corvette, and I have a better car than any C7 Corvette. Yeah, thats right, my 1977 L48 is a better car in my opinion....i.e. put them both in a parking lot with keys in the ignition and a free pass to take either one, I will be driving the 77 away....So there!!! Ha!

This is what it looked like before I sold it and yes I had more that $30k into it. But then again what nice looking, nice running C3's aren't north of $30K.

Well said brother, well said. Perhaps I could now afford. (Not justify) a C7. It is a spectacular machine and best of all, American magnificence; - but, what you said is true. Drive a nice C3 to a large family gathering, chili cook-off or tail gate party and park the two 40 or 50 feet apart. Just watch which one draws the most lingerers of all ages & genders, including the youngest kids who like the 'transformer' look of the C7. My money is on the waxed & shined C3. every time.
Now, a classic Mustang may be a closer competition, there is something special about that Ford, but still, it likely won't beat a C3.

I wish it were even close to 30 but I figure I've had it since 1989 and overall it's been cheaper to own than any other vehicle I've had other than my bike.

If you think you do this for return on investment think again.

Yup....I'm WAY upside down on my '74
And just added another $5000 to it on a crate engine.
So what - don't care! I love my car and have no intention of selling her.

At the end of your life, you regret what you didn't do more than what you did do.

I got in at under 2k. I have over that in the interior alone, and that's as far as I've gone. If this is any indication of where I'll be when she is done, I'll be part of your elite club soon enough.
