Question about AAA towing for non running car instead of U-Haul
I have a non running car in Syracuse that I want to bring down to my home in Pennsylvania. Trip is 200 miles. Does anyone know if I can call AAA and say the car is disabled and I need it towed home? I have AAA plus covering 100 towing miles. I don't know their per mile price after 100, but I imagine its less than the $350 uhaul wants for a truck and trailer, and thats before fuel.

try a car carrier that's going in that general direction that doesn't have a full load, you might have to wait awhile but it could save you some money.

Melting Slicks
I've had AAA tow a car from a transmission shop 90 miles from home. But in that case the trans failed on a trip, it had a warranty from a local rebuilder near my home. So AAA towed it home. If you are just trying to get free transportation for a move, roll the dice, but don't be surprised if you get a towing bill.

Burning Brakes
AAA towed my 82 home when my trans died. They sent a flatbed. They don't care where you tow it as long as its not over your plans mileage and they will only tow it once per break-down. It doesn't even have to be your car, just one you were driving when it broke. As far as using them for free transport of your already dead car, well, that's on your conscience and the rest of the AAA members wallets.

Hi Racer1x...
just a question...why would it need to be registered.....never knew that
i always thought that if on a full trailer or other vehicle..and no wheels touching the road...no registration required...
but, if you used a "dolly" with front wheels up..and rear wheels dragging..it needed registration....
i pull things all the time on flat bed trailers like polaris crews, etc..that are not registered...
thanks..just asking ..
be well,

I read this in the AAA Member Manual...
When calling for service, identify yourself by your AAA membership number and name, and then identify the make, model, color and year of the car, registration, plate, the exact location, the nature of your trouble and the telephone number from which you are calling.
Eligible Vehicles: Service applies to all properly licensed and registered four-wheeled motor vehicles of the passenger, pleasure or recreational types (vans, campers and motor homes), regardless of license plate designation, if those services can be safely delivered.
