Default 1981: High Idle After Driving

RPMs will not drop back to normal after driving it. They will drop to normal when I tap on the accelerator. Original Q-jet. No other mods.

Could be as simple as leaning out your choke adjustment slightly.

Oh 81? Thought you had a 73737373 for some reason.

An 81 e4me qjet should work pretty much the same as the 4M or M4M QJets. My first guess would be that the linkage or throttle shaft itself is binding. Then a sticky choke.

When this condition is created, I'd recommend taking the air cleaner off and visually inspecting the linkage - is it against the throttle stop screw? If not, why? Is the choke holding it open (you'll see that the choke flap in the airhorn is not "straight up" as one indicator)?

Agreed, the E4ME mechanically is pretty much the same as the older carbs.

Many thanks. I'll look at it this weekend, if it's not too cold.
