Physically, not much difference between the two. If memory serves, the 68-69 consoles are a bit different because of how they were upholstered. Later year consoles have less padding under the vinyl.
Contact the seller in Florida and have him/her send you pics of the 69 console. Compare it to your 71 console.

Hi,
As qtlw's pictures show there was no means used to line up the bottom corners of the lower dash pads with the upper corners of the shifter console in the early years.
The console was redesigned to include very small 'tabs' that fit into very small 'slots' in the redesigned lower dash pads. This ensured the pieces lined up.
Note, the detail of the double row of stitching on the shifter console and lower dash pads was added too.
Regards,
Alan
Here's a picture that just barely shows one of the 'tabs'.

Hi bb,
Yes, I think the tabs help the alignment of the 3 pieces quite a bit.

Alan

So here's how it went down, my brother was at the swap meet in Daytona, I said that if he ran into a good console to pick it up as mine is trashed, sun heat age and looks like abuse thrown in for good measure. Anyway he and apparently I were not aware of the finer details of the Corvette console, I consider myself schooled!
Thank you Gentlemen.
Dave
Oh, so just so I know $20. was a good price for a 69 leMans blue console in excellent condition?
