Hello!

Been lurking the treads for some time now. Now I have a reason to share/contribute!

Ever since I was a kid, I have loved Corvettes. I can still clearly remember my first ride in one (72 vert).

I have kicked around for the last 2 years, the idea of buying and restoring/modding a older vette, but were nervous about the challenges that come with such a daunting task.

So I finally decided to throw caution to the wind and make the jump! After some searching, I landed on this 68. I really like the c3 chrome bumper cars and wanted badly to stay between the 68-72's.









Now its time to get to work disassembling!

'68, or '69?
Reason I ask---has '69 and later doors and does not have '68 back up light assemblies.

Looks like an awesome car to restore. Cant go wrong with a 68. Have fun and keep us posted. Good luck with it.

Also the 68 has the push button to open the the doors the 69 is flush and lock only. Nice car to start with but be careful when you say restoration they all look the same after disassemble and parts are everywhere. Let the fun begin. There are a lot of us that have or are going through a full frame off so don't hesitate to post questions with picture. Chances are you will get your question answered and probably help others in the process. Sincerely good luck with the project.

And, I'f they're factory, the sidepipes were 69 only. I say that because many people have added the sidepipes later. Either way, it looks like a nice car to start with. Good luck and we need more pictures!!!!

Sure does. If it were me, I'd just JB Weld that side pipe and start driving immediately.

(Obviously, I'm not the guy for resto advice.)

With that style mirrors, probably 77 and up doors.

This is why I love these forums! You guys didn't hesitate to question parts of the car that were not correct vintage parts. And your all right!

I knew the doors & pads were off a later vintage (thought 77 or 78). Come to find out... 79.


I missed the tail lamps though! Good Catch.
The sidepipes were added later.
Vin shows its within the last 200 built for the 68 model year
tank stamp confirms May 68 build.

Need some help identifying these items.

Found this with the wire harness wrapped around it (not plugged in) It lived under the top pad at the front of dash. Its a heatsink and resistor for something...


And found these wires under the center console, tucked in the passenger compartment in front of the part brake...

Any help is appreciated!

The "wires" almost look like the fiber optic tubes.

The heat sink thingy is part of the orignal radio. Don't lose it, hard to replace.

It's called a radio convector. And with one capacitor you had an RPO U69 AM-FM mono radio. Stereo was rare in those days.

This is a stereo version from 1974. Two capacitors (or transistors, I do not remember the difference). I gave it away to a fellow in Texas who was into originality.

…but the 68's didn't have FOs if I remember right.

So if it is a later 68, could it have some early "pre production 69" parts on it?

Thanks! I thought it was original and radio related. The radio in the car is an aftermarket cassette player so I couldn't tell.

Yep. it has it. Both the top and bottom of the console. that's what they are. They connections for the rear.
