pics of "GRID CAR"
Hi folks,
I thought i would share pics of my newest creation. GRID CAR is now on display at my retro arcade "the gaming grid" in Columbus Ohio. Inspired from the TRON game we have on the game floor, this one of a kind C3 will be eye candy for kids and adults that visit. I'm sure not all of you are gamers or TRON fans, but for those that are, I thought I would share.
.
.
and like all TRON stuff, it must glow in the dark!

Thanks guys!
It has been quite the project.. Thanks for the props.
The shop that worked on it with me was great too. (Shark's Auto)
Pictures hardly do it justice. It's amazing in person.

As I started going thru the photos you posted, I thought "Hmmm...TRON car. Those grid lines need to be flourescent."
About that time I came to the 4th photo. Very ! That's a really interesting "toy" to display in your arcade.

Hi,
So the striping is a rather proprietary process myself and the paint shop came up with in a unique collaborative effort. We started out using bottled glow paint or glow-vinyl that is already on the market, but I was not very happy with the results. It didn't glow very well at all, the color was blotchy and inconsistent when it did glow, and it wasn't smooth and thin like one would hope it to be.
So we spent months trying different things. What we came up with is amazing but very labor intensive. I even went in on weekends to help paint myself. (I did the B-pillars and part of the back spoiler). It is such a pain that he swears he will never do it again! hahaha... So this is it. You won't see another one like it.
The lines are under the clear coat and barely noticeable to the touch unlike the several mil thick vinyl stuff. and it GLOWS like you would expect it too! BRIGHT and AWESOME. Pictures really don't do it justice. It has a presence about it that is hard to describe.
I am pleased with the outcome. It was worth the frustration.

Hteck,
There is another form of vinyl or thermal resin foil, when printed does in fact light up through connecting voltage to the vinyl/circuit board. the cool thing about it is it can be done in a variety of colors and even animate.
it is not cheap, but then again it is unique. Cool effect!!

In this ad it says coming soon, but it has already come lol. The materials aren't cheap but the company will make whatever is needed without us buying the full roll. I have one of these printers, but never took the plunge on the whole set up of the clow foil and the printable circuit board.

Thank you for sharing that. It looks really neat!
It says that it is "Measures 15 mils thick" which is thin for a sign, but not so thin for paint work. I can already think of 25 different uses for it though.

exactly, that is because there is a conductive foil that is printed onto it as well, that is the circuit board so to speak, the beauty of it is the possibilities are endless as to content and colors

Yes, with stuff like this, 3d scanners and 3D printers... home fabrication will really skyrocket in the next few years. (so exciting)

Thanks 3jsvette,
It glows even better when it gets to soak in sunlight, vs indoor lights.
Too bad Ohio is full of wintery gray crap for the next 5 months. LOL.
