Looked at that 73 today and took a test drive. Heres what I know. It wasnt as nice as I thought originally. It definitley needs a paint job. It has 1 repaint already in the original color. The current paint is peeling in several spots and has numerous bubbles. No body work. The interior is really good except for the arm rests which are peeling as they all do as I've been told. Its a base 350 cpe with 190 hp, a/c, auto, p/w, p/s, p/b,. Radio is one of those aftermarket corvette america radios. Dash is great , no cracks, clock doesnt work, oil press doesnt work, mileage is 54k. All smog stuff intact, new exhaust, new mufflers, original carb needs a rebuild, its got a computer controlled carb off like an 82 monte carlo so it doenst run 100%. Headlights pop up and down immediately, windows are plenty fast , a/c works but needs a recharge. Trim tag matches orange ext with deluxe dark saddle leather int. Exhaust is brand new. Tires are dunlop gt's with about 50% life left. Car is tight and handles, steers and brakes well. Seats in great shape, no rips or tears. I can have it for 10 grand.
OK, the 64 thousand dollar question? Do I take it?

Can't answer until I read the part where you say you looked at the pad on the engine and it matches the VIN.

This is precisely what I was concerned about.
If you buy a car as numbers matching because "its supposed to be," you deserve to get taken.
Don't be lazy...LOOK at the *&*^& pad YOURSELF and then make a determination.
I am stunned at how many people buy cars without doing this.

Excuse me but what did I say?? I'm sorry I didnt phrase it the way you wanted but I thought the inference was clear, all numbers match. Brought my little corvette black book to look at head numbers, carb number, dist number, block # etc. The alternator was a replacement so that number wasnt correct. I meant as its supposed to be according to the book. I wasnt taking anyone's word for it.

Sorry man, my mistake. "Its supposed to be" sounds a lot like "someone told me." If I looked, I wouldnt have to suppose anything.
Have fun with the car. Ive had 2 '73 coupes and loved them. Get it for under 10 just out of principle.

The paint is an issue because of the cost. otherwise, I don't think that $10k is out of line. As said above, try to get it down a little to leave you room for paint touch ups. If it needs a repaint, you could be in for another $6k. $16k is a little high for a 73 base coupe.

You really can't buy anything today for 10K. That 73' looks like a good buy for the money and based on what you have said I don't think it is going to sit around long. I have had my 73' since around 82'. I owned 2 other C-3's prior to it a 69'BB and a 72'SB during the 70's. The 73' rode much better then the others. Go ahead and make him a lower offer and see if he takes it but don't expect this car to just sit around for long. Someone will purchase this Burnt Orange 73' right from under you if you procrastinate to long. A matter of fact if it was in my area I know of a few people who would do just that right now for that kind of money.

I agree, offer him a lower number. I would start with 8,500, make a few noises about the cost of a paint job, then go 9 if he laughs at you. Heck, you can always go up to 10..just do it on the same day.

Buy it if you like it. The price is right. If you don't buy it you are going to kick yourself in the butt. 73's are very hot they are the bridge between chrome bumper vettes and rubber bumper vettes. Unique styling and looks. This car will only go up in value.
