Aftermarket weatherstripping question
The PO had replaced the weatherstripping on my 82 at one point and now when I roll the windows down pieces are ripping off and sticking to the glass. I have tried many things to help but it's to the point I'm just going to replace them. So my question is what is the best brand out there? I not going with NOS as those prices have sky rocketed.

I used the latex weatherstrips. Not sure of the brand name. You can purchase them from CF vendors here ie Willcox. I lubed mine with some silcone after installing them just in case they wanted to stick to the door glass.

This is the CRC kit.. It is the only kit I install in my shop. If you give me about an hour.. you'll see a new weekend sale thread.

Not sure about longevity. But the sales are usually only a few days, like a weekend. But Willcox has sales often, so if you miss it, fear not. A week or two later another sale will come up.

They are CRC brand and as close to the original as you will find. They are skinned as the original weatherstrips were, but I'm not sure what the skin on top is made from. I have great success with all CRC brand rubbers vs others.
The pillars are molded unlike most imported weatherstrips where they take an extrusion and bond ends on it to make it work.
What they don't have vs. the originals...
The pillars don't have the wire inside like the original nor do they have the hard metal insert on the one end. Will this make a difference? No. The retainer is what holds the rubber in place.
The door glass rears... you'd be hard pressed to tell any difference between the GM and this one...
Lastly..
Several factors are critical in the fitment of the pillar weatherstrip. The retainer adjustment, door hinge pins and bushings, the side glass adjustment, and the window felt pad adjusters. In most cases we always check these items and re-adjust.

Now just curious when I install the A-pillar are you suppose to use sealant in the track? Because right now mine does not have any, there just held in place by the grooves that the w/s slide under.

The channel.. that the pillar weatherstrip sits in.. should have glue from it to the pillar weatherstrip. Once installed in the channel the pillar can be adjusted in and outward. But, the channel that holds the weatherstrip should not be glued to the pillar frame. There is a thin rubber seal that goes between the retainer and the windshield frame. Hope this makes sense..

In the picture below.. on the left you are looking at the back side of an original pillar weatherstrip retainer. See the small thin section of rubber? It runs from top to bottom between the retainer and the windshield frame. You can't put glue here, if you do you lose your lateral adjustment of the pillar weatherstrip.
You put glue in the channel the pillar sits in side of though. Make sense? If not post back and I'll take some quick pictures for you.

Ok Mike I should have done that first but is still boxed up from a recent move. So it looks like there is a piece of foam that sits on the back side of the channel that goes up against the car right? It's the glue part I'm not following, is it through the whole back side that gets it or just where your arrow is?

This may clear it up.
The glue can't be placed between the two retainers, just the rubber liner. If its glued you can't adjust it in or out. (see the slotted hole in the pillar retainer)..
