Brake Sqeak
My 78 has got a squeak from the right rear wheel area.. Its sounds like sqeak sqeak sqeak etc. until I push on the pedal then it changes to a higher pitched sqeak sqeak ... It doesn't do it until I have driven for a few miles then it doesn't go away until the car has set for a while.. Any info would be great ,,thanks

check the u-joints, the wheel bearings, and the brake pads.

I'd guess that what you have is uneven brake pad wear. The pads are constantly in contact with the rotor as you drive, so a high spot can cause this kind of squeak, etc.
What's causing the uneven wear, that's the question likely. Could be rotor run out, which is common, and / or could be play somewhere further. Need to look around.

Rotor run out seems to be the main reason. As the rotor moves in and out it contacts and retracts from the brake pads causing the squeak. When the brakes are applied the squeak stops as the pads are tight against the rotor. How I stopped mine, replaced rear rotors due to damage on the inner parking brake hub, spindles checked for run out and none found, had front rotors turned by a very experienced Tech. that removed less than .020 per side, new organic pads. Noise is gone now for three years. Good luck with it, mike...
