I like the C3, I would get a 70-72 or a 1980. Just the ones I like. Egg crate vents and like the more refined later 1980 C3.

This is easy for me. I graduated HS in '83. So at the time, the new one's had rubber bumpers. So, in my mind, as soon as somebody says Corvette, I have that image in my mind. When I had the resources to get one, that is what I got.
I guess I got lucky that I like the 'entry level' c3 model years.

As a 20 year old, when I bought my first '80, the salesman who gave me the keys told me that the car would add 6" to my Johnson. Thirty years later I have a second '80 because I need all the help I can get.

I liked having having the extra room in the back plus A/C. I was looking for a '78, but got a '79 because the price was right and I liked the seats better.

When I was 13 I built an AMT model of a '70, painted metallic green. When I saw mine parked in a driveway with a 'For Sale' sign in it 15 years ago, I was just drawn to it. To me, the '70-'72 cars were the 'finished' iteration of the C3 shape, and the sharp creases of the original C3 went very well with the chrome bumpers and side grilles. After I had it 12 years, I painted it green. I wasn't aware of it when I bought it but it was originally Donnybrooke Green. I was hesitant about painting it that color (I had never had a green car) but as it began to come together after the paint job it was amazing.
Honestly, no disrespect whatsoever to those that favor the rubber-bumper cars, but the C3 was originally designed to have a chrome bumper at either end, and IMHO that's how it looks best. GM did an admirable job preserving the car's character after the government started interfering with its looks in 1973, but I've always thought that a chrome-bumper C3 is one of the most beautiful cars ever created.

I would have bought any coupe 69 to 72 coupe, because those are the ones that caught my eye when I first started noticing girls and cars! I LOVE the C3 cockpit, that "tunnel" removable rear window, the T-tops, and those CURVES! Our 71 came into our lives at just the right time. My wife found it, talked me into going to look at it, then convinced me we should buy it and bring it back to life.... to play with in our retirement!

2022 C3 of the Year Finalist - Modified
Of course, all of this is a matter of personal opinion. But, the 77 has the rubber bumpers, which make the car flow better front to back, longer nose, and good style transition of the rear bumper. Its a continuous flowing line front to back. Chrome bumpers are nice, and I like them too, but it visually shortens the car. Another awesome styling que of the rear rubber bumper is that the tail lights styling matches the look of the dash and tach in the dash. Then there is the much sportier steering wheel that the 77 has rather than the skinny wheel, and the better quality arm rest and instrument console. And the 77 still has the sugar scoop vertical rear window versus 78 and later glass. While my original desire was the 73, I am glad I ended up with 77.
Truth is my best C3 would be a personal combination of many styling points from the entire C3 generation, and that car was never built.

I love all C3's!! When I was looking for one I was focused on a 70-72 BB Coupe. Love the chrome bumpers, flared out fenders and egg crates. Found my 71 @9 yrs back and love it as much as the day I got it!

I wanted a 68-72 convertible however my 1st was a 73 coupe (auto/stock) - it was my brothers and he had it sitting for 10-years. A year later I bought a resto-modded 68 and gave the 73 to my sons. I now have what I always wanted.

Easy for me. August 1970 a 2,500 mile '69 convertible was available at a great price. C2s were just used cars, 70s had only been in production ~6 months so '69s were still new cars. I bought as the first of my Corvettes and still own it and drive it:thumb s:

1968, and its not a fish
Its not a stingray and has the cleanest lines of this series...that's before they started changes and adding useless chrome or rubber parts trying to distinguish each year of production from the next....And the 68 also carries the highest HP available.....

There are many reasons I chose the 1977 over other cars I saw main one was price for a car with only 43,260 original miles on it for $9000.
When you spend 3 months looking for a car you have to look at your Budget mine was $10,000 for any classic car I bought. The Vette was not my first Choice mind you I really wanted an El Camino for about $10,000. I looked at many classic cars and chose this Corvette. I knew any Classic I bought in the price range I was looking at needed work. But I wanted unmodified mostly original in my price range and Chose this 1977.
I have never been sorry I bought it and knew I would be dumping money into it to fix what others failed to do. Car will be in my collection till I die at this point After I am done will Buy an El Camino agian.
