Default No Fun in the C5 Forum

I sold my C3 one and a half years ago to buy an '01 convertible. I really love the car but there's nothing really to talk about on the Forum. I don't want to MOD the car and nothing ever breaks on it to fix or replace. That's really a good thing I guess. I find myself continually going back to the C3 section to view pictures of restorations, project cars, new paint jobs, cool interiors, BB engine compartments, etc. Having had the C3 for five years, I just love the looks of the car and enjoy talking about them. . . . and let's face it. The C5 is not a classic Stingray. I don't want to get rid of the '01 but I miss my C3 and those cool lines. Sounds like its time for a second Corvette.

Just think.. in 20 years the C5 section will be where the restorations are happening lol

Sounds like a C3 is in order.. have fun with your search!

Time to get a project c3 to share with us on the forum. I too had a c5 and ended up trading for a c3, because I missed my original c3 that i sold to buy the c5. Once you have a c3, the other generations will be cool, but not as cool as the c3 you once had.

I discovered years ago that there too many boxes to check regarding Corvette choices and interest to restrict yourself to one Corvette.

She's actually kinda hot.....but that's for off topic!

But I see the OP's point.....a new car is just that - new. There's nothing to do...nothing to fix... Guy's like us LIKE working on our cars (most of us!).

I could "probably" afford a new or "newer" Vette but, no thanks

The C6 forums are just as bad.
Glad I kept my C3 too.

Hi Adam,
Because of the electronics and computers in the later cars, I really wonder if they will ever be 'restored' in the same sense that the 53-82 cars are?
Will they just end up in 'dumpsters' when they break, the way computers and flat screen televisions seem to?
Regards,
Alan

that is profound and thought provoking early C5s are already getting hard to find some of the obsolete modules for?

who knows

Maybe not "restored"....but kept on the road through modding....
If someday absolutely no fuel was available, I'd convert my Stingray to electric to keep it on the road.....

I wonder if more C5's are getting scrapped ?

I had a 99 convertible. I used to hang out in the C5 section. And I thought it was boring, until the electronics in my car started to mess up. Thanks to the guys over there I was able to get it going. Let me tell you when the electronics on those cars start to go it's a nightmare. And don't let the battery go dead, thats were my problems started. I sold that and came back to a C3.

So far, the C1/C2/C3 cars are the only Corvettes holding or increasing their value as time progresses. 80's C4s aren't really that valuable, so if significant stuff fails, it would cost more to fix that it would be worth!!

The C5/C6/C7 crowds just operate differently. They are bound to their cars for "social" reasons, mostly. Get together; go on weekend trips; party down. But, they don't really 'talk cars' or work on them...other than detailing them.

There's nothing wrong with that approach. But, it's not for me. I want to work on the car and keep it in good condition. I actually enjoy that aspect of it...and I know that it's the same for many of those on this Forum.

I agree, it's like a cool old Zippo vs a Bic lighter. The Bic is easier to handle, and the fuel lasts longer, but doesn't look as good, isn't custom to your tastes, and doesn't make that cool zippo sound.

When the Bic breaks you throw it out. When the Zippo breaks, you fix it with a paperclip.

Hey Alan,

Funny you mentioned this. I was just talking with a friend of mine about that very thing. At this point, if you need a point A to point B used car, you can pick up something which for the most part can be maintained at home. But as you said, the newer cars are so dependent on computers that when they are 15 or more years old the average person won't have the skills or tools required to maintain them. They will become useless to the average person on a budget. Sad really.

Adam
