Default Rear Tire Carrier

Hey C3 Bud's

This may be a stupid question, I tried to take the spare tire carrier down but the bolt in the back got loose but I could never get the cover down. Is there a trick? Thanks for any help

You have to use the lug wrench to lift the tub a little and then swing
the bolt to the right.

The rear bolt has a pin in the top that prevents it from un-screwing all teh way. It just gets loosened and then the carrier lifts up and to the side so it disengages that bolt

Tail of the jack handle should fit into the hole here, lift about 1/2" and slightly to the drivers side to disengage the hanger

I'm up in NJ and will be home on Monday, I will try this out when I get home. I don't have a jack handle or a leg wrench. The car did come with a jack, where would the jack handle or lug wrench be in the car? Thanks for the picture.

Jack and jack handle are normally under the removable tray in the right rear storage compartment.

Sometimes people may not put stuff back where it belongs or in old cars loose them before they sell the car to you. You can buy them again ;o) This wrench will work for your car.

You can push it up by hand, the jack handle / large screwdriver / etc just give an easier way to do it and a little mech advantage.

You know me Alan, do everything as wrong as possible
I powder coat pretty much everything that'll fit in my oven. (Who has time to wait for paint to dry?)

Originally I was using phosphate (both mang and zinc etc.) kind of a throw-back to my aerospace days
This time I went the powder route.

Hinges, latches etc are more of a real pain though.

Everything needs to come apart, very little room for cheating

Brett--

You are a beast!!! Your p-c looks great...

Harris--

I just put my tire up with my hand... I have the jack handle, but it was easy enough with a 1/2 inch ratchet, extension and socket... Then, on your back, press up a smidge, slide bolt to the right, let the tub down... Piece of cake especially when it is as clean as Mooser's!!!!
