Door Handle Rod Clips
Does anyone have a picture of how the upper and lower rod clips actually attach to the door handle rod? Working on replacing my door handles and the AIM doesn't really show how they attach. Also, did all years have come with exterior door handle gaskets? Mine didn't have any....

Hi kjr,
I'll take the last one first.... yes the door flapper bezel and the lock key bezel both had very thin gaskets originally.
Now the first... the method for using the clips on the end of the rods is shown in 'View A' of the door hardware section of the AIM. UPC 1, Sheet K8 in my 71 AIM. The ring end of the clip is slid on the lock tab, then the rod is pushed through the rings and tab, finally the clip is snapped down on to the rod.
Regards,
Alan

Thanks Alan. My AIM shows the clips but doesnt really show how they go on the rod. As they say.... pictures tells 1000 words. If no one has a pic I will take one of mine and post it up to see if they are installed correctly.

Is the rod inserted in the handle the correct way (from back to front)? And are the clips attached the correct way? I'm pretty sure the upper clip is correct but I'm not sure if the bottom needs to be turned around...

Glad to help. I removed my glass and regulator to see why my power window was not going up and down properly. The round and square roller in the rear track and the front roller on the glass were bad. While waiting for the parts I decided to clean the latch and that's when I found that Bubba used a glue gun instead of new clips.
Now I have lots of new clips.

You dont say what year car you are working on but if it is a 78 or 79 there is no gasket between the door and the door handle.
