Default Anyone wanna tell me what year car i own?

So I just bought a "82 CE" yesterday, brought it home looked at the title and it says 1980.... kinda shocked but really didn't care cause of what I spent on it... double check vin to make sure he gave me the right title... it matches.... I run it thru the registry... comes back 80...
door, hood, badges are all screaming 82!! has hood badge gas door badge and steering wheel that all say Collectors Edition, the back hatch DOES open.... so im stumped, im leaning twords a 82CE Clone, but when value between an 80 and 82CE is less then the $ youd have to put into it to make it look like a CE why... just why...

Anyone wanna take a crack at it?

What is your VIN? Therein lies your definitive answer. The 80 was made in St Louis and the 82 in Bowling Green. My bet is it's an 80 made to look like a CE.

Well yea, like I said the vin says its an 80, base engine out of st. louie but with the seats/full interior/rear plastic, glass & hatch/ badges/paint/decals your damn near 1/2 into buying an 82CE original it not almost all the way... it just doesn't make sense... and as for as worth... nada says 80 complete base no options is like 9k and the 82CE only like 11k with no options.... so its not like they were doing it for value cause what they spent in the cloning was prolly more then double what the value difference was..
unless it was all done for personal preference and the look only... but wow someone spent a lot of dough just to make a clone... should have just sold this and bought a CE for a lil bit more.

Don't even try to make sense of it. Whoever owned it obviously liked the look of the 82 Collector Edition and was determined to attempt a clone. As they say, Don't confuse activity with accomplishment. They may have had a cheap donor car and alot of free time to attempt to make a CE.

As far as NADA price guides: Not very accurate on old Corvettes.

Couple question:

do you have crossfire injection?
do you have 700r4 overdrive trans?
do you have an air flap in the front of your hood on the bottom side?
can't see your door panels; do they have stripes like a CE?

i don't see any crossfire badges...

Value guides mean even less in this case. It used to be an '80, but now it's completely modified. It's not in any way an '82.

Now its just a custom '80.

It might have been stolen and they changed the VIN. I had a friend in Cleveland, have his CE stolen. He was the original owner. If they changed the VIN and the engine and the transmission, how would you know what the original 82 VIN was? Very hard to impossible to read the frame number. Lou.

Does it use smaller auto u joints on the diff or manual size joints like all 82s? I think it to be a weirdly modified 80. What does the drivers door sticker say, if anything..

If I remember correctly the 82 Collectors Edition's rear window opened and the 80 did not. I might be wrong but a thought.... From the picture it looks like the rear window opens.

Well, yea I did get it at a really good price, and yea... next time ill be checking the title b4 handing the $$ over... I got an investor to give me some $$ to start up a buy/fix/sell business and this was the first car. We'll just say the car wasn't on Craigs very long and he really needed the $$ I walked out of there $2100 lighter then I walked in. Owned by a well known family business here in Jax so I know theres nothing illegal about the car or atleast HOPE there isn't lol they were just hard up for some $$ they were selling everything in the barns...
