Cig lighter removal on 81?
I'm trying to replace the console in my 81, but I'm stuck trying to remove the cig lighter. I've got the AIM, and searched and read several posts that it is supposed to just screw apart, but mine isn't budging.
If I twist the lower portion, the upper just spins with it. I've tried to anchor the inner part, but no luck getting it apart. Is cig lighter in the 1981 mounted in the car different somehow?
Any suggestions on how to get a stubborn one to come apart?

I just went through this. I ended up destroying the lighter
housing.
the lock/tightning cyl would just not unscrew from the element cyl.
I have changed out many lighters over the years and never had
one stuck like this one.
the basics are,
internal cyl that the hot wire clips to and contains the contacts for
the lighter heating element.
this is secured by a cyl that has female threads on the end and a
toothed surface on the other end.
It is spun on to hold ground wire ring and secure to console.
After 30 years I guess ash and crud glued the two parts together.
I ended up cutting it apart with dykes. major pain and now I have to
find a new one. one that is unique because of length and hot connector.

Thanks for replying! I finally got it to come apart, though not before breaking off part of the inner portion. It was all corroded anyways, so getting a replacement was making more sense even before it fell apart. Once I finally figured out where the threads were, I hit those with some WD-40 and let sit for a little while. After that, they finally pried loose. Like yours, it was filled with ash.
Oh well...also found the a/c plastic cover plate was cracked/broken in like 14 places too...so off to the vendor websites while it's all torn apart!
