Default Hood Insulation for my 1981

I have no Hood Insulation on the inside of my hood. I went to a number of 3rd party sites and don't see anybody selling them.

1) Does the 81 have any hood insulation?
2) Is anybody selling them out there?

Thanks

The 81 didn't use hood insulation.

Actually it should be semi-gloss black.

The outer edge of the underside of the hood, up to the reinforcement, should be body color. The reinforcement, and all of the area inside of it, are semi-gloss black.

gbvette62,
Thanks, I am going to buy a can of VHT semi-gloss black and lots of masking tape and spray the underside of my 81 hood.

Why semi gloss as opposed to flat?

Because that's what Chevrolet used. The difference is that semi-gloss, has a dull shine to it, while flat black has no shine at all. Semi-gloss was used throughout the engine compartment, by Chevrolet.

There's no reason you can't use flat black, but to maintain an original appearance, semi-gloss black, should be used.

I'll try to post up some pics of my hood, tomorrow night. My car has never been painted, and still has the factory black, on the underside of the hood.
