I also replaced the locking bolt with a rubber hood latch for easy access. It's held everything secure for years now.

I did the same, Excellant for long road trips. Amazing how much can be stored away. I have even put our luggage bags in the carrier. Easy to lower and seals very well. Al

The cars look clumsy with the tub missing. You can paint or chrome or whatever in the big hole but it never looks right.

Default removed it

dumped the full spare and the tub and replaced with a compatible donut spare. don't see how losing the weight would affect balance. lost the leaf spring and replaced it with 40 lb lighter composite. donut tucks in under bumper cover and you can see all the pretty suspension work i've done. tub looks good!?

A little worry might be a good thing. Consider where you will be sitting on the side of the road after you call the fix it folks. There could very well be places you do not want to be. A C3 on the side of the road attracts potentially unwanted attention.

How long will it take the fix folks to arrive on the scene?

Here's a question/something I've been thinking about. Right now I'm don't have my spare in place but still have the tub. I noticed when I have my p225/70-15 spare in there it is a tight fit from a height standpoint . Now here's the question, if I got a flat, would the p255/60-15's even fit in the tub? Never tried, but I'm thinking not. I realize the 78's and up had those size tires from the factory, so were the tubs different? Bigger to accommodate the p255's?

It will go in the rear compartment long enough to get you home on the spare.

So, does that mean to say you know positively that the wider P255's will fit in the spare tire compartment? That's not what i'm getting from your reply. I am probably going to have to try it for myself to make sure. If the P255's I'm running won't fit in the spare compartment, there is no reason to even have a spare.

Thanks for reminding me to put the air compressor back in mine. That spare is worthless without it

I removed mine a while back. I was thinking of throwing the tub on ebay. What's it worth?

That does look nice. Wonder how it going to hurt me to buy it?

Hi Dheista,

Nice rear suspension upgrades that you have done. My question to you is with the upgrades you have done like the dual mount spring, will the spare tire tub even fit in the original position? The reason I am asking is that I will be installing the VBP rear performance kit with the dual mount spring and aftermarket rear sway bar, smart struts etc. so I'm not even sure the tub will fit after the upgrade. I would like to keep the tub for tools, fluids, spare parts etc. as mentioned but if it doesn't fit back into the car after the suspension upgrade then it won't even be an option to consider.

while you are at it, why don't you just remove the spare tire and jack and tools from your daily driver car or truck..
