Tax on collector cars

Then, there's the tax on mileage that the government (both Federal and here in California) that taxes you for every mile you drive! Like you're gonna tax me just to move around! F-YOU! and double F-YOU!

We have a very similar (identical?) tax law in North Carolina. The assessed value of an antique vehicle is limited to $500, which makes for a nominal property tax. Your regular driver vehicles are assessed at more or less market value. If NC changed the property tax law I would give some very serious thought to selling my vette.

All Connecticut antique owners need to call their senators and state reps. We can't allow this to happen. Gov Malloy is out of line here! We should tax him every time he says ummmm when he speaks on TV!!!! That would cure our deficet quickly!

As if they are going pull in that much more by following through with that bill. Firing a couple of bureaucrat's would have the same effect.

Notice anything? 90% of the taxes that goes to Washington, stays in the pockets of those in Washington! They NEED more taxes to continue to fleece the rest of us!

Don't get me started....I don't even live in the US and it pisses me off. You all know what the problem is why doesn't somebody do anything about it?
Some of those medium income numbers are real low. How much less does one have to make to bring jobs back to the USA?

This is why the left is so he11-bent on amnesty for illegal immigrants, with one stroke of the pen they could create 10+ million new citizens dependant on government assistence, willing to vote for whatever Democrat happened to be running.

When we sell a car up here we pay market value tax. I'm assuming thats what this about down there. for years now you have not been able to pick any value for a vehicle. If the number you pick is too low they tax you one book value. They basically don't care what you say you paid.

We don't have that tax in Illinois YET. So let's drop this before one of those meatheads in Springfield gets any ideas.

Yes in Illinois you pay the tax once, although if the reported purchase price is out of line they will figure out what's "book" value.
I'm shocked this concept of charging it every year hasn't occurred to the Gov (who is in Chicago at all times, not Springfield).

This is interesting and something new for me. They pay a "property" tax on an automobile? Heck, I just pay $74.00 a year for a licence sticker. It has no relation to the value of the car. Beater or Bentley it is the same. Strange policies down south.

In Connecticut you pay a 6.35% sales tax, once, when you register the car.The State gets this
There is a registration fee of $90 for two years, The state gets this
There is a motor vehicle tax (personal property tax) that the town you live in keeps, this can change town by town because its based on the mill rate. And if you have Early American (Antique) plates, the limit of the assesed value was capped at $500.00 so last year I paid $8.05 for my 1972 corvette (I also paid $65 for my 2003 Saturn, $105 for my 2009 HD Sportster)
My understanding, listening to Gov.Malloy State of the State address last week was that he wanted to eliminate the personal property tax on automobiles all together. So I'm not sure where this new SB 843 effort to change the way they asses the value of the cars is coming from. Are you sure this is real???
I do plan on contacting my state representative and if I find out anything different, I will come back here and post up what I was told.

When you purchase a collector car here in Ontario (25 yrs or older) you need to get it appraised , you pay the tax on the higher amount.
Purchase - 10 grand , appraised @ 12 grand , you pay the tax on the 12 grand. It's a joke.

Pretty soon they will just take what they want and leave what they think you need. Some great mind (Jefferson) once said "A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take everything you have."
