Default Seat help: Is this comfort weave or basket weave??

Already sent seats out for my early '69 and now read in new NCRS judging manual some early 69's have basket instead of comfort. Maybe your eyes are better then mine...

I believe what the new manual is refering to is that some of the early 1969 seats used 1968 upholstery until left over inventory was used up. This was for colors like blue or red that were not ordered as often as black. Black was the base interior color and I don't think any excess black 1968 upholstery was left over.

Hi b,
I agree that your picture shows comfort-weave as Mike and RV have said.
Here's a picture of the reproduction comfort- weave. It's quite nice but can be detected from the original.
The original has a TINY hole at each weave so the material can 'breath'; the reproduction is pressed from a solid piece of vinyl.
It's tough to see the difference until you know what to look for.
Regards,
Alan

Original comfort weave will " leak " seat foam particles all over the place through the breathing holes. Lou.

And this is why I replaced the original foam a year ago. All of that foam dust blowing around when the top was down made driving treacherous!

The 'leakage' of deteriorated [channel] foam in original seat covers is just due to age and UV rays causing the foam to degrade to yellow dust. If the covers, themselves, are still in good shape, those covers CAN be re-stuffed with new scrim foam and brought back to life. I have a paper that is available for those who are actually considering that process.

7T1vette, I would like info on that as I have recently purchased new seat foam and hope to do this in the near future. I hear placing a large garbage bag over the foam helps to slide the covers on, not sure if the foam needs to breath as well. thanks.

Hi B,
The picture shows seat covers from Al Knock.
I installed them my self. It's a bit of work, but really doable if you take your time.
Regards,
Alan

If you replaced the seat covers and also replaced the foam, I'm really impressed. I watched one of Al Knoch's guys do the job on my 70. He sliced some trim off the seat cover foam with a knife. Then to pull the seat covers over the foam he had some really big forearm muscles. No way I could do that.

Wow Alan that is one nice interior, I saved the pic as a reference Is that the correct carpet heel pad? Is that carpet also from knock? I ordered carpet from corvette america and am skeptical.

That yellow dust from the foam drove me bananas! Needed to wipe everything down following every nice afternoon drive. Thank goodness that problem will be no longer
