Default Value of 70 corvette ?

I am looking at a 1970 titled corvette. it has a 454 m21 transmission. 65000 miles. the tank sticker says 454 360 or 390 hp? Also the plate under the shifter says the same thing. OK now it gets tricky. The guy who has the car liked the 73 front end so he put that front end on this car. Also it does not have true wheels of time period. the motor has had work done also. non # matching 454. The interior is true interior and in good shape. the car was originally green now Marlboro maroon. Ive been researching trying to find a value of this? I need help NADA 28K. He is asking 26500.00?? please help

Waaay high. Without the original motor maybe 10-12k. Especially a coupe.

$26,500 will get you an almost perfect 350/350 coupe as long as it does not have A/C.

You can find a matching numbers big block 4 speed 70-72 coupe for that range with the correct front clip ( may need some work but a much better buy).Car was cut up and I would stay away from it. Keep looking and pass on this one.

26K will get you a real nice Corvette. That car is butchered. I wouldn't want it at all.

Just way out of the park high based on your description, especially the front end bit. Like double. As others have said, you can get a nice car for 26.5. 1970 is a desirable year.

Default 70 corvette value

Thanks everyone. There was never any damage to the front end. very clean on frame, and where the birdcage would be. I am dealing with around 20k and I want a 4 speed big block car. 1970. My father had one. I have done some research to put it true to period would be 12000.00 approximately. Nada with high and low would put me in the middle at 32-34k. I found a lot of 350 auto and stick. but not many bigblocks with a manual in 1970.

There are a LOT of pieces that are unique to '70 front ends vs. 71-72's. Even moreso to '73's. With the time it takes to find, paint/prep/fit all the right parts, you could have already been enjoying a nice #'s matching 1970 big block for the same money. Even the headlight assemblies are different 70 vs. 73, so I would wonder how much of that was changed.

I wouldn't go off of NADA for these cars. There's too much variation between each car to have a set standard like that. eBay and the forum are the best place for comparable sales, of which there aren't a lot right now. It's a buyers market.

if you don't care about original motor, you should be able to get to real nice 70 coupe for 26K. good shape originals will cost you in the 30's. broaden your requirements to 68-72 instead of just 70 and you will find something easier

I wouldn't go so far as to say that. There is still something to be said for owning a Stingray, big block, good condition, etc....certainly not at that price, but I wouldn't say it has NO value.

To give perspective to the OP: I bought my '72 with similar circumstances. 1972 coupe, 76k miles, non #'s matching (but it's a small block - auto), non original paint, has the L88 long hood, monza headlights, one piece front end, fender flares, and so on. I got it for $6800 and I couldn't be happier. I didn't have the funds to buy an all original but I really wanted one with chrome bumpers so I got what I wanted, at a price I could afford, with circumstances I could live with. Now I can get my hands dirty and I get to ride the rubber off it and not worry about every little bump in the road.

Obviously this isn't an apples to apples with you looking at a big block, 4 speed, 1970, but still relevant somewhat to give you an idea of how much the value drops with so much changed on it (I'd easily have paid double if everything was original on mine). I do agree though, if you are looking for one in that price range, you can get a LOT more for your money if you wait for the right one.

I really find that hard to believe. The previous owner did not just change the front end bc he liked the look of the 73 over the 70. That is just BS. There is a lot of work with just changing them over and then there is the structural changes of the bumper mounts, front crossmember, and Vacuum container. What probably really happened is someone wrecked the front end bc the brakes had gone soft for misuse or neglect and then the 73 front clip was put on.

Way too high priced for a non original engine car with a replacement clip from a different body style.

Hi,
I agree with the thoughts of this being a LOT of money for the car described.
I also thought the same thing as Sully about the front clip change. I realize people do some strange things but this is pretty strange. It would be interesting to know if the car has a one piece front clip.... that might be an indication of what happened.
Regards,
Alan

bottom line is it is a 70 with a 73 clip, you won't be able to sell it in the future, and you will always be making excuses to people that ask. the number of people that will buy a 70 with a 73 clip is close to nil... unless you really lower the price.

Cowboy, there is only one question here: Do you want to pay $18900 for the car?
