If you do, you've got a problem.
The actual VIN is on the driver's windshield post visible from outside the car. What does it say? It is also on the vehicle certification label on the driver's door (open the door and you should see it) if the label is still on the door.
An original Corvette engine will have two stamps on the pad on the block at the front of the right head. One is the engine assembly and identification stamp; the second is the VIN derivitive of the vehicle the engine was originally installed in. What do your two stamps say?

exactly where on the car do you see 1z375454 ? The first number 5 in the string has to be the letter "J", "T", or "Z". The second 5 in the string is the letter "S".

can you post a picture of the dash VIN, you are misreading the first number 5? The engine pad should have the last 6 digits of the VIN stamped on it.

yes I know I looked it up also. the last digits are a sequence #Looks like the only thing thats incorrect is engine segment #5 which is a #5 not a letter. So its a # 5 instead of a J ect.
Ever hear of that?

Nope never heard of that. I assume the sticker on the drivers side door is gone?

Should be 1Z37*4S4xxxxx
1 Chevrolet
Z Corvette
37 coupe
* J for the L-48; T for L-82; W for LS-4
4 1974
S St. Louis, Missouri
4 car line series code
xxxxx consecutive unit number.
Don't use the title - that could be a typographical error. Use the VIN plate on the driver's windshield post.
Check the pad on the block as indicated in my first post. An original engine will have your VIN derivitive stamped on it. (14S4xxxxx)

...rut roh, for all you old, old timers here you may remember a guy by the name of "Kerry" on the old "Yankee Lady" Corvette Forum in the late nineties....
....poor guy got BASHED & I mean BASHED like all get out...
...went on & on & on about "5th digit being a 5 instead of the letter S".
...are you Kerry? Are you serious about the VIN #?
...Kerry's old Corvette? How long have you had it? Wonder if this would even be in the archives.....
....was some funny **** back in those early internet Corvette message boards. Times I laughed so hard I cried and fell out of this chair.

Does anybody know what that device is in front of the air cleaner? Looks to be part of the cooling system.
