Default routing of wiring for spare tire

can someone describe the routing of the wires for the spare tire light. pictures are a plus if you have them. i seem to recall a post on this a couple of weeks back but i cant find it. i have the car back on the frame again and i am trying to sort everything out. i have found a couple of wires coming out of the passenger compartment above the rear axle. and it had a black box (about the size of a match box)
butt-spiced into them. This being the first corvette that i have ever worked on , can someone tell me how this wiring should be, and if the black box should be there or not. thanks for any insight. Tony

What model year? If the car had a spare tire light, the assembly instruction manual (AIM) will show it. The wiring is likely part of the rear harness.

Take a pic of your black box. Offhand, I can't think what it might be.

the car is a 1974 t-top car l48 auto. the wires are a pair of 14 ga. brown wires that almost look like a lamp cord type wire where the 2 are siamessed together. and here is the picture of the black box. oh and the 2 green wires on the box wire spliced to the 2 brown wires, while the yellow on the box was not connected.

If memory serves, 74s did not have a spare tire light; that or I never had an occasion to use it on my 74.

Black box looks aftermarket to me.
