Rack & Pinion options...who's is best? Hydro Boost options...???
I'm going to install a R&P system. Several vendors to choose from:
Flaming River
VB&P
Van Steel
any suggestions?
VB&P is cheapest cost, even before 15% off special.
Same question on Hydro Boost setups.

I installed the VB&P unit a couple years ago. Only problem I had was the rack went bad and had to be replaced (out of warranty or course). It is virtually identical to the Steeroids unit but less expensive. I ended up using the Steeroids install instructions because he instructions from VB&P were terrible.
I'm a bit gun-shy about Flaming River since trying to install of their steering columns. Looked good on paper but in fact was a nightmare.
Haven't used Hydro Boost system so I can't help you there.

Other options???
Werner,
Have you even considered the Borgeson power steering box? In my opinion, it is a better deal than the R&P. It costs less, uses ALL of the factory steering linkages, including the Pitman arm, and still gives you full lock and only 2.7 turns LTL.
I have one in my '74 coupe as well as a hydroboost, and the car steers and stops better than any other car I've driven. I also have a '74 'vert with factory PS and vacuum brakes and the difference between the two is quite noticeable.
At least check out the Borgeson #800108 box on www.borgeson.com or ring them on 1-860-482-8283 to find out more. Tell 'em aussiejohn sent you.

I have a 72 with a steroids conversion kit and a 76 that is stock and it is strait and tight. The only improvements I see is better control for bump steer and it doesn't get shaky at 90

Steeroids all the way. I installed the kit in my '80. The fit was perfect, absolutely no problems at all. There's a reason why it costs a little more and it's money well spent.
Most after-market retailers that cater to resto-modders sell brake hydro-boosts. I've got my eye on one from Eckler's. They sell a complete kit. So does Vette Brake Products. They call their's the "Hydra-Boost".

Here is a good link for Hydroboost install, klick.
The borgeson box is a good choice, but there is still a little play in the steering (not much, but a little). I think you will not recognize it with the 15 inch wheels but I run 17´s on the front and I did.
Then I converted to a Rack/Pinion and this is a steering WITHOUT any play in it.

Home brew them both, same as I did years ago....a decade ago I did my rack install before any kits hit the market, same '92 Grand Am rack they used.....junkyard the input linkage, and modify the tie rods to fit....
then to do a junkyard HB setup and it's a simple plumbing hookup....
Really here, just who is a fabricator/concept person, and into saving a buck, or are you all just a bunch of parts changers????
come on guys, if this old fart can do it on basically his own concepts, with a welder buddy for parts, that all bolt in/remove easily, so nothing permanent.....I gotta know most of you all can do the same....

Jay leno's garage had this company on about a year ago. Looks like an interesting product. But in the comments section someone with a 69 prefers the Steeroid product. Heres the link to the video for your research.

I installed the Steeroids kit and it defenetly improves the feel of controll.
It takes of almost a turn on the steeringwheel (lock to lock) and together with a slightly smaller diameter steeringwheel it actually gets realy good.
However i thought it looked a bit dodgy when it came to the brackets that was made of several pieces to be bolted together. There are a lot of welt spots (correct word?) that needs to be ground off both from the brackets and the frame before bolting everything together to get a good and solid construction.
I chosed to drop the bolts and instead i welded the brackets together and also to the frame.
I also didnt use the ruber mounts that allowed som play of the unit but had aluminum ones made instead wich i belive also adds some more "feel" and controll.
There are some pictures in my profile of the welded brackets if interested.
I dont know about the rest R&P:s but i think that the Flamin River kit looks very nice judging by the pictures.
But i must say that im very happy with my unit.
