Have a look at te rust around the tag. Do you think it is rust problems on the window frame/birdcage?
Can it just be surface rust as the owner says?
I can get this 1972 for a nice price

I had rust at the same spot on my 72. It was partly surface rust, but the lwer part of it actually was rusted on the inside as well.
I would see if you could look down the bottom of the windshield frame under the top of the body and see if there is anything there also. I had a hole right there that was allow water to get into that area.
Seems also there may be a lil rust to the right of the top rivet also, but may could be something else.

I enlarged the picture to have a better look and you are right it is rust on the top rivet(you can see the paint have cracked where you see the rust spot
Si i bet it is more rust than the pictures show
I will ask the owner/seller to take off the kick panels and send me some pictures of the birdcage some some more pictures of the door openings and window frame

Rust right below the edge of the glass in the 2nd pic. The part there thats showing the rust is the lower W/S frame corner. What does it look like behind the kick panel on the #2 mount?

I agree it is best to look at the kick panel. Mine had similar rust and it was pretty much just surface rust. I have since had my windo replaced due to an existing crack and found that I did have some overall surface rust on the windo frame, but overall it was solid.
I didn't like seeing that rust, so I ultimately took my dremel to it and ground it out and then put on a coat of rust encapsulator. I then applied a seam sealer that I got from Eastwoods to put inbetween where the glass body meets the metal and then primmed it. It will get painted again when I finally get the whole car done in a few years, but so far it has held and no more rust for over a year.

Hi TS,
I'm more concerned that the fiberglass flange has been cut off the top end of the fender.
This was probably done to gain better access to the rust at the windshield post/cowl connection.
I'd examine this car VERY carefully.
Regards,
Alan
This is what that area should look like before the fender trim is installed.
And with the trim installed. No good way to install it on the cut fender.

Does it have a wiper door? Wondering if it was modified to eliminate the wiper door, use the later model long hood. If this were the case, the owner who did the mod probably was making the fender tips match up with the hood? If the factory caulk is still in there, below the windshield corner, it probably hasn't been disturbed. Not to say there couldn't be any rust in there. Can't tell for sure without digging all the caulk out.

The car is far from where i live so i need to have the seller pull the kick panels and take some more pictures.
I noticed the the trim on the wiper door and top edges on the front fenders was missing but i did not see that the fenders had been cut.
Rust on the birdcage is not anything i want on a C3
Is the weatherstripping where the rust shows on the picture glued?

Hi TS,
I don't see what weatherstrip you're referring to?

Alan

I am thinking of the weatherstripping/trim posted on the picture below.
Where the weatherstrip/trim goes down in the door opening.
Is that glued?
The weatherstrip is missing on the picture on the 1972 i posted so if that was torn off could the paint come off with it?

Hi TS,
That weatherstrip is part of the a-pillar weatherstrip on my 71 model year car. It's held in place with 2 screws and weatherstrip adhesive.
I believe that the 'extension' was part of the upper strip and was used in 70-71. I also believe the 'extension' wasn't used on 72 cars. Some people may have installed them to help control leaks.

Alan
