Default how to you replace the headlight?

My right front headlight is not working. So I got a new headlight a Sylvania p/n H5006. How do you get the headlights stay up while car is not running? I was told there was a pin, I have to pull out under the dashboard by the brake battle . I found the owners manual and did not say anything about how to change the headlights.
Thanks
Russ

What year? In my 82 if you shut the car off with the lights on they stay up. Even after you push in the light ****.

There's a little **** on the lower dash lip just under the steering column. Pull it down with the motor running.

here it is in this pic............

Or simply pull it up with the engine off. If it adjusted somewhere near correctly it will "over center" and stay up enabling you to work on it.

It's not really behind it, just under it, pointing straight down to the floor. Should be able to see it from kneeling down on the ground outside the door (unless it is busted off).

Also, on my '75, there is two *****. One also resets the trip meter on the speedo by turning it.

When you are sitting in the drivers seat, the switch is between your knees.

Hi,
I believe it's not a good idea to just pull the headlight door open with the hoses still on the actuator. It puts extra strain on the diaphram's seal and can tear it because of it's age.
So reach up and disconnect the hoses; then pull the door open.
Regards,
Alan
