It will stay on if the door is open. If you still have the timer hooked up it should go off after 10 seconds (or so) once you shut the doors. If it doesn't go off after the doors are shut, either your door jam switch(es) are bad or your timer is shot and should be bypassed or replaced. The timer is located above the tach/speedo and is a pain in the butt to get at.

The OP's 1974 Corvette won't have a delay timer. The timers were first used in 77.

The courtesy light will come on when a door is opened, and should go out immediately, upon closing both doors.

Didn't see the '74 link on his post. Nice catch.

Of the dash assembly, I thought the top dash pad was the last piece to go in.

Can't speak for others - but to me it has to go in first...couldn't imagine getting the clips in with the LH lower dash in the way....and the lower driver dash would have nothing to attach to....

With top dash in, start with the bottom of the LH dash, then fold it up to the top dash and attach. (makes it sound easy - huh ? )

OP, did you find out what the light was?

What color are the wires to that light?
If the ignition has to be on it shouldn't be a courtesy light (should work with or without ignition)
The only idiot light I can think of over there might be the BRAKE light in the gauge

The wires are brown and red.....never thought of it until you said it just now, but it could be the e-brake light...?!!!

Mine are Tan and Pink (I believe I've got the right circuit I'm looking at) so could be.
Check the switch on the E-Brake and see what color they are there.

According to my 1973 Dr. Rebuild oOSOEZ wiring diagram, the bulb with pink and brown wires is for the "Parking Brake Alarm Bulb".
