68 Hood Insulator

68 Hood Insulator
Going through the 68 AIM I noticed a hood insulator. I checked on my car and I cannot see any evidence that there was ever an insulator located on the underside of the hood. I believe the hood is original to the car. Does anyone know for sure if the 68 actually had a factory installed hood insulator.

My 68 did not have an insulator and I could see no evidence that it ever had one, but never say never.
I can check the NCRS Judging Guide this evening.

My book is old and there is nothing about 68 having one. It does offer a paragraph about the 69 insulation.
In 69, a piece of dark grey/black insulation is fixed to the front underside of the hood above the radiator and front of the engine. The insulation is held in place by three (3) natural aluminum split shaft pins and large black metal "push-on" retainers. The presence of the insulation appears sporadically throughout 69 production and we are unable, at this time, to be more specific about its application than to say it appears to be more common on the Mark IV cars.

The strange thing about the drawing is that there is no "Revision Record". entries. I don't think there is another page without at least one revision.

This is from the JG 1968-1969 but it is old.. maybe there is a revision in it but I don't think so.

Sorry I didn't know your first post was from the Judging Guide.
Well the conclusion I am coming to is the 68 did not have the under the hood insulator. I think the page in the AIM should have been stamped canceled.
Again if you want to know something just ask. This Fourm members are a great bunch. Thank you

My June 12, 1968 orig. car hood has and had no insulation on hood.
I have the same reference in my AIM too.
I guess it was to follow.
I think my car was a parts clean up car.
They took everything old from the bins and put it on this car
I have a mix of early and late I guess June is late in production.
Don't sweat everything you read.
If I made my car NCRS correct according to a Judges manual,
I'd have to un-do what GM originally did to conform to a late car.
Restore your '68 as period correct but don't get rapped around the axle.
I worked for GM from 80-84 and I could tell you stories.
