Clueless
Hello. My name is jay. Let me first say that most of my life I have had a distaste for chevrolet's and corvettes for that matter. But I have just traded for my first vette. I traded an 05 custom focus for a 76 stingray L82. I know the car has problems. One thing that I seen was no dash panel. It also needs an ignition and door locks. Since they use a screwdriver to start it. I was told there is no keys to it. It hasn't been started in 4 years. Does anyone know of a "corvette" junkyard so to speak of that I could get a few of the parts I need from? Any positive suggestions or input would be helpful. Thank you.

Hi rw,
A good source of used parts is Gee Auto Sales in Middlebury Center, Pa. You can google it.
Gale Gee, the owner, is a good guy and knowledgeable about Corvettes!
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

Hmmm....No keys and a screwdriver damaged ignition switch. Do ya think that car may have been stolen in the past???
Just make sure the car has a valid title before you buy it.

You can get a brand new ign cylinder with 2 keys for 10 bucks and 2 new door lock cylinders with new keys and pawls for less than 10 bucks at Autozone. Personally, I wouldn't fool with a junk yard for those.

Someone else to try is Corvette Mack in Georgia. Very nice to deal with and has good parts. He is on eBay a lot - HERE
I have 404-825-7207 as his number. He will be at Corvettes at Carlisle next week.
Good luck on the 76!

Thank you guys. You are awesome. And why did I trade up? Let's see. The focus was worth about 5 thousand. And If I can get the vette right I should be able to get 15 for it. If I wanted to sell it. Lmao. Simple automotive math I guess. Thanks for all the advice. Once I get it on the road. Watch out. Lol.

Something you need to know before you put any money into that car. Is that in this market a 76 has to be very clean to get $15,000. We all these cars there is an enjoyment the vette gives that no other car will. If you are looking at it from an investment stand point walk away. You will have more into your vette than it is worth if you intend to fix everything that is wrong with it. If the dash is out you likely need new wiring harness, gauges, a/c- heater blower possibly heater core if has never been replaced new carpet, seats, door lock mechanisms, electric plungers if so equipped ect ect. That is just the interior if you need under hood work suspension work frame work bird cage rust you are alreadupon a tight resale spot. If you already have $5k in it from the focus trade be aware you will most likely be upside down fast if it is not in great shape. These cars are wonderful but an expensive hobby almost always is.

One thing about these cars is that you can get parts relatively easily. Between the supporting vendors here, the "parts for sale" section here. Craigslist, eBay and the local parts store I've built my car.

If you bought the car hoping to make money on it you would have been better off investing in a buggy whip factory. These things cost they don't make!

I bought my replacement door locks and cylinders from a local NAPA autoparts store. They have the door locks and ignition key cylinder for these cars.
There is no need to go to a junkyard and try to find these parts. Then you will have issues with worn out locks, and missing keys.

I'm from jolts summit. I know where Fulton is. And I wasn't saying it was an investment. I'm just saying I'm going from a car that won't hold it's value to a car that keep value more so. Thank you for all the advice. But the only reason the dash is missing is because the stripped it all out to paint it. All the interior is there cept the dash.

I have a distaste for people who don't like Chevy's, especially Vettes. Most likely if this is not your "thing" then you're not gonna want to spend the money on it to fix it up.
