The "New" Black C3 Thread
#401
Advanced
Here’s mine! I have always had red corvettes (still have two C4s in that color) but I got a bug to buy a C3 a few months ago and just went for it against my usually reserved buying impulses. The best bang for buck C3 I found was this one. Original color was War Bonnet Yellow, and then was painted Sunflower Yellow at some point and finally matte black. Was originally not my first choice but I really like it and will likely repaint it satin or matte black when the time comes. My dog likes the C3 so that’s a bonus.

Giving the best color C3 thread a bump with some recent highlights of my '80.

Wow scrolling through this old thread was cool and made me realize two things....there are some really nice BLACK CORVETTES out there, and PHOTOBUCKET really screwed up when they wanted to charge everyone for viewing their own photos.
Here's my contribution.....it's the closest I can get....it's about a 50' paint job.

Hey guys,
I own a 1980 Black C3 with side pipes and a newly redone interior. The next step in my project is to repaint the car. I want to stay faithful to black as it is the theme of the build. But when digging a bit deeper there is a lot of different black colors to choose from. Can you guys share what exact shade of black you guys went for and why?
I have started to look for the colours I see on the cars around and so far I want to take a clearer look on:
Audi Mythos Black
Audi Brilliant Black
BMW Carbon Black
Dodge Viper Black
I am also considering to go matte, but the more I think about it the more I doubt it is a good idea.

Mine is the original 1980 Corvette Black (single stage paint) that was redone around 15 years ago. Still shines up very nicely.

Matte or satin is a firm no I my opinion.
I would stay with the original paint, not because I’m about originally, but because it is the perfect paint on the car.
I’m in the middle of the repaint of my 73 and I had chosen several new car colors, but my painter discouraged me and said that they would not look as nice nor complement the lines on a C3.
He has been restoring and painting Corvettes for over 40 years, so I assume he knows his business.

Carbon Black is a very dark blue, I considered it but nope.
