so, im looking at new tires, and im seeing theres no much in options out there.
it looks like a lot of people are using indy 500s, but im not seeing much info on the newish MT S/Ts. they look like theyve got a pretty aggressive tread design on them.
and whats my max size on a standard 15x8 on a 69? im seeing some say i can do 235/60/15s up fronts, and others are saying itll rub. as for the rears, im seeing people say 235 max, maybe 255 max, or even 275s if i get rid of the ebrake bracket.

On my '72 I used to run the T/A's in P245/60/15 up front. On my car, a P255 would have rubbed on the front frame. Can't help on the rears as I ran 245's all around for rotation.

I run 245/60-15 on mine. I tried 255/60 but the fronts rubbed. The only problem is availability of 245's. Goodrich T/A's and Cooper are about the only ones.

looks like im going to have to break out the tape measure on this one.
as for the 245/60/15s, M/T has those available. so at this point, unless i find a damn good reason not to, ill be going with the M/T S/Ts.

You can definitely fit 235 width tires in the front on your car; 245's might fit and 255's will likely not fit without some rubbing.

I never checked to see it the 255 60's would rub the frame on the front. I know on my car they clear the fenders ok. I have new coils in the front and will probably lower my front end 1 to 1.5 inch's to close the gap from the fender lip to the top of the tires if I keep the 235's on the front.

Where exactly do the 255/60's rub? It was a factory option on later C3s correct? I thought the clearance problem was with the fender lip, but y'all are saying the frame. Did later C3's have changes in the frame to support the wider tires?

Here's a link to a nice tire size calculator - http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
I have a 72. The modern equivalant to the stock tire size is 215/70-15. I don't really like the open wheelwell look - so I like taller/narrower tires. I tried 225/70-15's on all corners, and had rubbing on just the drivers side, full left turn - so they were pretty close. I decided to leave the rears, and I put 215/70-15's on the front.

I was running 265/50Rx15s Dunlop GT Qualifiers had no problems with rubbing I only changed them because they were 12 years old.
I"m now running 255/60x15 Mickey Thompson S/T Sportsman and still no rubbing. Hope this helps.

I just had new BFG 255-60-15 installed at Discount tires for $505 including tax. They matched tirecrawler.com delivered price and installed them for free. Cheapest by far I could find them anywhere.
