1970 offered black as an option and the 1971
didn't offer black as an option.

Agreed. Don't tell him you peeked.
Help him fix the AC - build the relationship.
Then mention (or better show him) your car, and perhaps mention the obvious shape of his sheet.
(A C3 under a sheet looks just like a C3 under a sheet.)

Are you sure about black as a 1970 option? It wasn't offered when I bought mine, so I settled for Laguna Grey. I have all of the 1970 dealer ordering and fact books (with the color chips) and there is no listing for black as the exterior color.
