I stand corrected, it was an 85, that is the newest vette i have been in.
Thank you for the info.

I always wanted A Corvette and a Harley. Somebody at the Boeing factory I worked at owned an early version of the C4 in a burgundy color. He drove by my shop every day. I always thought at the time that the GM made a mistake by removing the sexy lines of the prior Vettes. With all respect to our C4 brothers I just thought it was so plain looking compared to again all the sexy Vettes before it. I have seen some very custom C4s that look OK but the C3's and earlier models have always looked good right out of the box. I haven't owned many Vettes like others here but I do love my 81 black beauty. Sometime I wish I had somebody to push because it's sooo slow but she sure is perdy. Every time I pull the cover of of her I saw wow. Every time I sit in her I say wow. The Corvette in my own personal opinion is the sexiest car ever made in America including the C4. All of us Vette owners are blessed just to own one no matter the year. 90% of all cars today look the same to me. Every Corvette stands out wherever it is. I Never got the Harley. I have owned many nice cars but none of them ever got the same respect and attention of the Vette.

I have a frame off restored 82 with a 383 stroker and suspension enhancements and a 94 ZR-1. I love them both but the Z is definitely superior.

I love my 76' and all C3's, I've never owned a C4 but my dad has always had a thing for them (I don't get it). The price is definitely right on C4's but the styling just doesn't do it for me. They are without a doubt more refined than C3's but thats not what I look for in a Vette. More Refined=No Bueno! I'd rather have it Loud Hot and Smelly.

I bought my c3 (1973) not because of performance or handling but because of the look and feel of it.
My first specialty when I was an auto tech was GM port fuel injection (F-Bodies and Corvettes). So I have been in a pile of C4s. Yea they are faster and handle better but they don’t have the stand out look. A C4 to me is sleek and sexy with a modern feel. The C3 is curvy and in your face with a classic feel. No one is better, just a preference thing.

I am not bashing the C4. I like the looks of them and the prices are right, but the experience of driving a C4 just doesn't stand up to driving a C3. My first Vette was an 80. After selling that I toyed with the idea of buying a C4, but driving them left me flat so I finally bought my 77. Just curious if any of you current C3 owners have now or have ever had a C4 and your opinions of the two.

1984 and 1996
Still have our original owner 1968 and 1970. Bought a 1985 in 1992 and still driving it. I do like it, so does my wife. Bought a 1996 LT4 new and still have it, wife has never driven it and always declines when we take it out of the garage. I really like the 6-speed and power of the LT4.

I see many say their C4 was very comfortable and some say it was very rough riding. Is this because the C4 had a stock kind of suspension and a heavy duty kind of suspension like the C3's Gymkhana?
I considered buying a C4 but a guy I knew had an 84 and said it had a terribly rough ride which really turned me off. I think the C3 is better looking, but I think the early C4 had the best looking motor ever made and the interior was the best looking interior ever made on any car.

Started with a 57 in early 80s. Went from there to a 76. Owned it for 3 months and had to dump it due to a bad motor and bad re-paint by the PO. Few months after that bought an 84. Got it used in 87 and owned for 3 years. Had to sell to get out of debt from a failed business startup. 2 months ago bought my 71 4-speed vert.
Best car to drive? For me, the 84 with great suspension. Did have a rough ride but I was young and didn't mind.
Most fun to drive? Definitely the 57. Sent chills up my spine every time I drove it. Divorce tossed that one to the curb.
The 77 was a dog, but mostly due to a bad motor and a lying seller that had poorly repaired it from an accident. Yes, I was young, impulsive and lost my tail on that one.
Love the looks of my "new" C3 and it's a blast to drive as well.

GM finally figured out how to spring/shock a car to get a decent ride AND great handling in the mid/late 80's. Softer spring rates and gas shocks were the "ticket", I believe. The '84 did not get the Bilstein shocks; that came in '85 or '86, I think. I had the 'base' suspension in my '84 and I thought it rode fine...but I like a firm ride. Never thought it was harsh, though. As mentioned, it handled fantastically, IMO (and compared to the C3's I had owned).

Z51 in 84 and 85. It was softened a bit in 85 due to complaints of harsh ride in 84. In 87 they came out with a Z52 suspension that rode better yet retained high cornering abilities. I really liked them all. I also liked the firm ride. Those early Z51 cars handled like go karts. They were fun to drive
