Not all surprises are bad, found out my '70 had a factory alarm..
Hi all, I'm in the process of taking my '70 L46 apart to be repainted and the original headlights put back in. While taking off one of the rear bumpers, I came across this:
Which as I know from eBay auctions is the horn for a factory alarm. I followed the wires, which have been spliced. Are these good systems? Do most people hook these back up during a restoration? I'd like to pull the horn to test it and clean it up at least. The flasher parts are in the PS area behind the seat. I am not sure if the rest of the system is there. So, my questions are:
1. Does anyone have any dimensions/measurements as to where the hole is exactly? Mine has been filled or the taillight panel possibly replaced.
2. Which key style do I need? The car was built May 27, 1970. I see two kinds on eBay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/380413906247...#ht_500wt_1040
http://www.ebay.com/itm/C3-Corvette-...ht_1182wt_1021
3. Does anyone have a picture of the hood alarm switch, or of the setup in general?
4. Should the key match my door keys?
Thanks in advance!!

According to the NCRS judging guide 4th edition, the alarm switch with the “Brigs and Stratton” key was used “to about s/n 11,000” after that the one with the GM key was used.
Hope this helps.

Hi Jason,
You might well be able to see the original hole's switch's patch if you look at the rear panel from the back side.... have you tried that yet?
I'd think it would be worth while getting the alarm working.
This alarm (horn) sounds very different than the car alarms of today, so people will definitely notice the sound.
Regards,
Alan

Thanks for the comments - I'll get the later style. It's amazing how many differences there are to these cars, even within the same year. I didn't see a hole in the taillight panel, so it may have been replaced. Who knows after 42 years... I'll measure a '72 next time I see one since it was standard equipment by that year.
